Abstract:
An apparatus is made of a surface communication system for communicating wirelessly with a first wireless modem mounted within a section of tubing, and configured to communicate wirelessly with a second wireless modem through a tubing including the section of tubing and within a well at a distance in excess of 500 feet , comprising: a transceiver assembly adapted to be positioned on the section of tubing and in close proximity with the first wireless modem; transmitter electronics configured to provide low power signals to the transceiver assembly to cause the transceiver assembly to generate low power wireless signals into the section of tubing to be received and interpreted by the first wireless modem; and receiver electronics configured to receive and interpret high power signals from the transceiver assembly.
Abstract:
A well testing system and method are provided. The well testing system includes a separator-exchanger module (3) that may include a modular frame, a separator and/or a modular steam-heat exchanger. A surge tank module (5) can include a surge tank, frames, and two surge tanks. A manifold model can include a compact manifold. The various modules of the well testing system can be interconnected using various guiding, stopping, and/or fixing clamps.
Abstract:
A chassis assembly is disclosed for housing at least one circuit board. The chassis has a first chassis part, a second chassis part, and at least three shock absorbers. The first chassis part has a first end and a second end, and a first external surface extending between the first end and the second end. The first chassis part also has a first longitudinal axis extending from the first end to the second end. The second chassis part has a third end and a fourth end and a second external surface extending between the third end and the fourth end. The second chassis pat has a second longitudinal axis extending from the third end to the fourth end. The first and second chassis parts are adapted to cooperate to secure the at least one circuit board within a boundary defined by the first and second external surfaces. The at least three shock absorbers are positioned on the external surfaces of the first and second chassis parts. At least one shock absorber is positioned on the first external surface and extends along the first longitudinal axis between the first end and the second end. At least two shock absorbers are positioned on the second external surface and extend along the second longitudinal axis between the third end and the fourth end. The at least three shock absorbers extend beyond the first and second external surfaces.
Abstract:
A fiber optic sensor system includes an optical source to output a first optical signal to launch into an optical fiber, and a coherent detector to mix a coherent Rayleigh backscatter signal generated by the optical fiber in response to the first optical signal with a second optical signal output by the optical source and to generate a mixed output signal. A phase detection and acquisition system determines a phase difference between first and second locations along the optical fiber based on phase information extracted from the mixed output signal and combines the phase information extracted from multiple acquisitions to detect strain on the optical fiber sensor.
Abstract:
The present invention provides a coaxial cable which comprises a cable core encased in a polymeric layer, enclosing the cable core with a pair of shaped conductors; extruding a layer of polymer over the shaped conductors; and cabling an armor wire layer about the layer of polymer to form the coaxial cable.
Abstract:
Inductive couplers for use in a downhole environment are described. An example inductive coupler for use in a downhole environment includes a body defining a cavity and magnetic material positioned in the cavity. The example inductive coupler also includes a coil adjacent the magnetic material, the coil formed with a number of turns of wire, and a first metal cover coupled to the body to enclose the cavity. The metal cover being electrically coupled to the body to form a substantially contiguous electrically conductive surface surrounding the cavity.
Abstract:
The present disclosure comprises providing a cable core encased in a polymeric layer, cabling a first armor wire layer about the cable core, cabling a second armor wire layer about the first armor wire layer to form the cable, each of the armor wire layers comprising a plurality of strength members, at least one of the armor wire layers comprising a plurality of strength members having a polymeric layer bonded thereto.
Abstract:
A fiber optic distributed vibration sensor provides a highly sensitive measurement of a measurand with a high degree of linearity. The distributed vibration sensor includes subsections configured to have a high sensitivity to a measurand of interest interspaced in an alternating manner with subsections having a low sensitivity to the measurand. The distributed vibration sensor is interrogated such that a phase difference between the backscattered signals generated in low sensitivity subsections surrounding a high sensitivity subsection can be determined. Characteristics of the measurand may then be determined based on the phase difference.
