The cover member is configured to cover the opening when the first portion engages the body. When the second portion moves the second portion is configured to apply a force to the sealing member to move the sealing member away from the opening to facilitate fluid communication between the interior and the exterior of the ink chamber, and to disengage the first portion from the body.

There is a light blocking part (42) formed near the edge of the left side of the arm part (41), which is supported such that it can oscillate by a support dais (31) in the fulcrum (41a) near the edge of the right side. The arm part (41) has a branched arm part (44), which is branched and extends downwards in the part between the light blocking part (41) and the fulcrum (41a), and there is a float part (43) at the edge of this. When there is sufficient ink remaining within the ink reservoir chamber (111), the light blocking part (42) will block the light emitted from an light emitting part (1014a) of an optical sensor (1014). When the ink within the ink reservoir chamber (111) is reduced, the light blocking part (42) will move downwards, and it will no longer block the light emitted by the light emitting part (1014a), so that a light receiving part (1014b) will receive this light.

An ink tank (60) which stores ink, and which also supports a sensor arm (70) in its interior in a manner allowing rocking according to the amount of ink remaining, is formed by a bottomed, box-shaped body (10) possessing a main opening (11) and by a lid (50) which covers the main opening (11) of the body (10), each of which is formed from a resin material. An ink supply path (20) and an air-communicating path (30) communicating with the ink tank (60) are provided on a wall confronting a main opening (11) of the body (10). On the lid (50) there is also provided a supporting flange (51) which projects toward the interior of the ink tank (60) and supports the sensor arm (70) in a manner allowing rocking.

The invention refers to an ink cartridge (1). The ink cartridge (1) comprises an ink chamber (111) with a wall (161). A translucent portion (140) protrudes from the wall (161), wherein the translucent portion (140) has an internal cavity (140a), the internal cavity (140a) being configured to be in fluid communication with the ink chamber (111) . An ink supply part (120) has an opening (610a) formed therethrough, wherein the ink supply part (120) is positioned at the wall (161). A moveable member (30) comprises a light blocking part (32) wherein the light blocking part (32) is disposed within the internal cavity (140a) of the translucent portion (140). A float part (31) is disposed within the ink chamber (111). The moveable member (30) is configured to move between a first position and a second position based on an amount of ink disposed within the ink chamber (111), wherein as the ink within the ink chamber (111) is dispensed from the interior of the ink chamber (111) to the exterior of the ink chamber (111) a surface of the ink within the ink chamber (111) moves in a predetermined direction. When the moveable member (30) moves from the first position to the second position, at least a portion of the moveable member (30) slides on and along at least one guide (41), and the moveable member (30) moves in a direction which is slanted with respect to the predetermined direction.
