    The apparatus (100A) reproduces a pictorial image from an information recording medium on which encoded video information and subcode information are recorded. The apparatus comprises a video information reproducing unit (400) for decoding the video information to output a reproduced video signal, a sub-code information reproducing unit (23) for decoding the subcode information to output a superimposition signal, and a control unit (31) for modifying the position, size, etc. of the superimposition signal to be superimposed on the reproduced video image.

    摘要： An apparatus for superimposing an image represented in a predetermined dot arrangement on a video signal. The apparatus includes inputting device (38), a memory (24), a storage block selecting device (40) and a signal switching circuit (32). The memory (24) has an arrangement of a plurality of storage blocks (102), each of which includes an arrangement of a plurality of unit storage cells (104) each for storing one bit. The inputting device (38) inputs externally prepared binary signals. The storage block selecting device (40) selects a predetermined storage block (102) for every inputted bit information. All the unit storage cells (104) in the selected storage block (102) store the inputted bit information. The signal switching device (32) sequentially reads the contents stored in each unit storage cell (104) in synchronization with a video signal, switches the video signal and a predetermined superimposing video signal to each other in accordance with the contents and outputs the same. As a result, each dot represented by the inputted binary information is represented by a plurality of dots in the reproduced video signal after being superimposed. The signal represented by the inputted binary information is reproduced on a picture frame as an expanded image.

    摘要： The present invention relates to apparatus, for displaying dot matrix characters formed from selected binary data ele. ments each representing either a dot or a blank, of the type which comprises storage means (16,72) for storing sets of binary data elements, each set defining the shape of a respective character which has a relatively high density in the horizontal direction and relatively low density in the vertical and diagonal directions, logic means (73) for performing logical operations on each set of the stored binary data elements to generate associated additional binary data elements which can be used to enlarge the size of the respective character selectively, and display means (14, 75) for displaying each character using the associated stored binary data elements and associated additional binary data elements in order to display said character in enlarged size, Apparatus in accordance with the present invention is characterised in that the display means uses the generated additional binary data elements together with the stored binary data elements to enlarge the character being displayed in at least one of the vertical, horizontal and diagonal directions by lengthening at least one of the vertical, horizontal and diagonal linear components of the character being displayed along the linear direction thereof (Figures 3, 5). According to a preferred embodiment of the invention the logic means also performs further logical operations on each set of stored binary data elements to generate further associated additional binary data elements which can be used to enhance the respective character selectively. The display means uses the further generated additional data elements to increase the density of at least one of the vertical, horizontal and diagonal linear components of the character being displayed along the linear direction thereof. According to still further embodiment of the invention the display means uses the further generated additional binary data elements together with the stored binary data elements to increase the thickness of at least one of the vertical, horizontal and diagonal linear components in a direction substantially orthogonal to the linear' direction thereof. The invention also relates to a method of displaying dot matrix characters in an enlarged form using apparatus as above.
