摘要: A system for bending the otherwise plane substantially triangular sections 77 of glass comprising the reflecting surface, wherein each triangular section 77 includes vertices and edges extending between the vertices. The system includes means 79 for supporting the triangular sections 77 at each of its vertices, and means 81 which are positioned along each edge of the triangular sections 77 for applying pressure against that edge, forcing that edge into a configuration approaching a curve, so that the triangular section 77 as a whole is curved.

摘要: A system for concentrating electro-magnetic radiation, such as solar radiation, by means of a plurality of reflectors (14) mounted on a common frame (12) and aimed at a radiation absorber (16) that is rigidly coupled to the frame (12) by an intermediate support (18). The combined frame (12), reflectors (14), absorber (16) and intermediate support (18) are coupled to a cantilever beam (22) by means of a suspension assembly (20) located between the absorber (16) and the reflectors (14). This suspension (20) is at the center of gravity of the combined frame (12), reflectors (14), absorber (16) and intermediate support (18). The cantilever beam (22) is coupled at one end to a main support (24) and at the other to the suspension assembly (20). This suspension assembly (20) allows the combined frame (12), reflectors (14), absorber (16) and intermediate support (18) to pivot relative to the beam (22) about two perpendicular axes.

摘要: A solar energy system that concentrates the sun's rays by means of a concave reflecting surface (1) trained to follow the sun, and disposed to focus the sun's rays on a mercury boiler (3) so that mercury vapor may be employed at relatively high temperatures without encountering the high pressures that occur with steam. Mercury vapor generated by the boiler passes through a conduit system to drive a mercury turbine (5) which is coupled to operate an electrical generator (10). The mercury vapor then passes through a condenser (7) where it is condensed to liquid by heat-exchange with water pumped through an inner coil. In accordance with one alternative, the heated water may be passed through a superheater (9) where it is converted to steam. The hot water, or steam, as the case may be, passes into a distribution system (11) where it may be used for residential, industrial or commercial heating. The partially condensed steam or hot water is returned through the pump (12) to the inner coil (8a) of the mercury condenser. Where there is an auxiliary oil or gas-fired heating system available, the discharge pipe from the mercury boiler may be passed through the fuel exhaust stack (6) to absorb supplemental heat.

摘要: A solar energy system (10) including a collector (12) for collecting and concentrating solar radiation, a receiver (14) associated with the collector for converting the radiation concentrated by the collector into thermal energy, a thermal energy accumulator (16), and a thermal energy transfer system (18) for transferring thermal energy from the receiver to the thermal energy accumulator is disclosed. The collector includes a primary reflector (30) having a shell and a removable reflective liner for concentrating radiant energy directed at it and a secondary reflector (34) for directing to the receiver the radiant energy concentrated by the primary reflector. The receiver, situated at the vertex of the primary reflector, has an internally finned compound paraboloidal cavity for receiving radiation. The thermal energy transfer system includes at least one heat pipe (82) thermally coupled to the receiver in such a way that the receiver and collector can rotate freely about the heat pipe. The thermal energy accumulator comprises a mixture of fusible salts (20) which begin nucleation at different temperatures. In one embodiment a control system includes a radiation seeker (130) which tracks the movement of the sun.

摘要: The present invention relates to a solar tracking concentrator comprising: an east-west tracking means for tracking the movement of the sun in the east-west direction from the upper part of a base frame; a support disposed vertically on the east-west tracking means; a concentrator-type parabola system disposed so that a shaft thereof is supported by the support, and having a second parabola disposed at a position slightly past the focal point of a first parabola having a wide area so that the high-density light is concentrated in the center of the first parabola; and an altitude tracking means disposed on the support so as to have the concentrator-type parabola system tracking the solar altitude, the present invention further comprising: a prism case disposed so as to be positioned in the rear of the light transport hole in the center of the first parabola of the parabola system, and so as to move angularly by means of the driving power of an altitude tracking motor of the altitude tracking means; and a light guidance means coupling a total-reflection rectangular prism to the prism case. The light guidance means rotates half as much as the rotational angle of the altitude tracking means, thereby allowing the high-density light to be always guided and supplied to the same location.
