The invention relates to a seal swell agent for use in lubricating oils, such as engine oils, turbine oils, automatic and manual transmission, or gear, fluids, drivetrain and gear oils and hydraulic fluids. The seal swell agent comprises a diester of sorbitol or a derivative thereof and at least one carboxylic acid. The invention extends to the use of a diester of sorbitol or a derivative thereof and at least one carboxylic acid as a seal swell agent, and a method of maintaining seal integrity.

摘要： Alkoxylated esters of dicarboxylic or tricarboxylic acids have an anti-irritating activity measured as a reduction in intracellular leakage of sodium fluorescein of 15% or more at 1:50 dilution or 40% or more at 1:100 dilution from a test composition containing 5% of the alkoxylated ester. These alkoxylated esters are useful in cosmetic and personal care products, especially in products such as baby shampoos, hand dishwashing liquids and bubble bath preparations. A method of reducing irritation provides for application of an irritant with the alkoxylated esters to the subject in a personal care or cosmetic product.

摘要： Esters of alkoxylated aromatic alcohol and fatty carboxylic acid are provided. The esters are especially suitable as additives for personal care and cosmetic products. Certain of the esters of alkoxylated aromatic alcohol and fatty carboxylic acid having certain skin spread factor or viscosity are also provided. A personal care or cosmetic product composition that includes from about 0.1% to about 99% of at least one ester of alkoxylated aromatic alcohol and fatty carboxylic acid, and from about 0.1% to 60% of at least one functional ingredient is provided. The functional ingredients in the composition 15 may include active ingredients and additional ingredients. Especially suitable active ingredients are sunscreen active ingredients and antiperspirant active ingredients. Preferred compositions are sunscreen product formulations and antiperspirant products. In one preferred embodiment, the composition further includes at least one cyclomethicone compound present in the amount of from about 1% to 99% by weight of the composition. A method of improving the protection of human or animal skin or hair from radiation and a method of improving the protection of human or animal skin or hair from perspiration are also provided.
