Abstract:
Bait for attracting crustaceans and non-crustaceans which are caught in trap fishery. The bait includes a pelletized carrier composed of ingredients intended for long life in sea water. The pelletized carrier is mixed with specific attractants depending on the desired catch and a fish oil is added to coat the pellets and attractant and to allow for the timed release of the attractant. In experiments to date, it has been found that the use of the pelletized carrier and attractant together with the fish oil coating has been effective as a bait in attracting catch and has an extended life within the traps.
Abstract:
A fish feed comprises carvacrol and/or salvia extract (provided that where the fish feed comprises carvacrol and not salvia extract the lipid content of the fish feed is at least 15 wt%). The salvia extract may be selected from extract of Salvia officinalis and extract of Salvia lavandulifolia. The carvacrol may be synthetic or may be extracted from Origanum vulgare.
Abstract:
A fanning feed for fish in freshwater, wherein, in addition to the content of starch as an ordinary binder, there has been added to the feed up to 25 g per kg of constituent feed ingredients of a faecal binder of a non-starch type, and methods of making and using the same. The feed may be of a pressed or extruded type.
Abstract:
The invention relates to a digestible vegetable composition for pet food in the form of particles which contain predominantly powdered vegetable, and furthermore minor amounts of starch and, if desired, sugars and/or fat. Also a process for manufacturing such a composition is provided comprising milling vegetable in dried form to a powder, mixing a predominant amount thereof with a minor amount of starch, and, if desired, sugar and/or fat, and extruding the obtained mixture.
Abstract:
Feed block containing feed particles, at least one binding agent and liquid wherein the binding agent is selected from the group consisting of cold-water soluble starch or cold-water soluble, vegetable protein; and the feed block contains less than 40% of water by weight. Also described is a method for forming a feed block and an apparatus for manufacturing of the feed block.
Abstract:
A method for calculating a range of quality parameters, for example colour, pigment content, fat and/or water content, of a foodstuff, in particular a foodstuff of animal origin, for example meat from fish and mammals, the method comprising the steps of providing a representative individual of the foodstuff; determining the characteristic size of the individual, for example length, area, volume and/or weight; positioning the measuring lens of a colour measuring instrument at a surface of the foodstuff representative of the quality parameters, and measuring the L*, a* and b* values (Chroma and Hue values) of the surface; comparing the measured values for the size of the present individual and colorimetric data to a multivariate model provided in advance, representative of a population of the species of the individual, the multivariate model being formed by mathematical processing of chemical analysis results, visual colour evaluation and individual size for the population and comprising correlation factors between the measured colorimetric data and a range of measured quality parameters, in order thereby to derive the quality parameters of the present individual in standardized units of measurement.
Abstract:
The invention relates to a fish feed, in particular a fish feed containing soya protein, where having been added to the fish feed butyric acid or salts thereof or esters thereof. The invention also relates to the use of butyric acid or salts thereof or esters thereof in a fish feed, the fish feed containing soya protein, to prevent or reduce the occurrence of, or to reduce the seriousness of, soya-induced enteritis

Abstract:
The invention relates to a pet food which has the shape of regularly or irregularly shaped flat particles having a thickness of 1-6 mm and a surface area of 40-700 mm². In case of a dog food the thickness is 1.5-6 mm and the surface area 100-700 mm², and in the case of a cat food the thickness is 1-4 mm and the surface area 40-200 mm².
