In order to provide a machine which can be used universally and which ensures as high a production speed as possible and, at the same time, a crease-free passage even in the case of a fabric which has an extreme tendency to crease, it is proposed to make the spacing variable of the roll rows which lie vertically above one another. In the case of a relatively small roll spacing, a very sensitive fabric is then also guided though the machine without creasing, at the expense of the drying performance.
