In other alternative embodiments, a spade bit (300) has tapered flat edge which have straight grooves (328) at a lead angle (α) of 4 to 8 degrees placed thereon. The straight grooves on the flat edges of the spade bit allows the spade bit to pull itself through the workpiece with a minimal amount of penetration. The flat edges of the spade bit may also have cutting surfaces for cleaning the hole and permitting the easy removal of the spade bit from the hole after drilling.

A cutting tooth (38) and a stabilizing tooth (40) are formed on each side of the mouth of each slot (60) formed in the body (22). The cutting tooth (38) removes material from a workpiece and the stabilizing tooth (40) limits the feed rate and prevents grabbing when a rotary motion is applied thereto.

The cables can be laid on the cable tray for routing through a building. The mounting assembly includes an elongated rod, first and second arms extending downwardly from the rod and attached to the cable tray, a ratchet mechanism attached to one of the arms, and an attachment member on the other of the arms. The ratchet mechanism includes a ratchet and an extendable and retractable strap. The strap can be extended around the bottom of the cable tray and attached to the attachment member.
