Abstract:
A method for treating the gastro-intestinal or a urogenital system of a subject with prebiotic nutrients and probiotic bacteria is provided. Multi-chamber products are described which include at least two chambers wherein probiotic bacteria or human microbiome transplants are contained in one or more inner chambers and wherein prebiotic nutrients are contained in an outer chamber, the outer chamber completely enclosing the inner chamber(s). One or both chambers may contain a pharmaceutically acceptable material that is solid outside the human body when in a dry environment, but that melts at internal body temperature. The products may be administered by oral, rectal, vaginal, or urethral routes.
Abstract:
A tampon adapted to deliver a therapeutic agent, the tampon including a tampon body that is manufactured at a first manufacturing facility; and a dosage form coupled to the body, wherein the dosage form includes a formulation including a therapeutic agent, and wherein the dosage form is manufactured at a second manufacturing facility. Also, a method for producing a medicated tampon including manufacturing a tampon body at a first manufacturing facility; manufacturing a dosage form at a second manufacturing facility, wherein the dosage form includes a formulation including a therapeutic agent; and coupling the dosage form to the tampon body.
Abstract:
Abstract:
A hollow type suppository for rectal administration comprising a mixture of morphine hydrochloride with α-cyclodextrin, hydroxypropyl-α-cyclodextrin, dimethyl-β-cyclodextrin or hydroxypropyl-β-cyclodextrin.
Abstract:
A suppository of usual size, shape and materials of construction is disclosed which is well suited for its intended purpose, incorporating therein an art-recognized osmotic therapeutic system for delivery of a therapeutic agent, such as indomethacin, via the anal canal.
Abstract:
The present invention relates, in various embodiments, to formulations comprising hydrocortisone and silicon dioxide. In additional embodiments, the invention relates to suppositories comprising hydrocortisone and silicon dioxide. The formulations of the present invention are useful for administration to patients who have gastrointestinal diseases and disorders such as, for example, inflammatory bowel disease.
Abstract:
The invention relates to coating of suppositories containing free unsaturated fatty acid, fatty acid ethyl ester and fatty acid monoglyceride that are susceptible to oxidative degradation. The coating retards oxidative degradation of unsaturated fatty acids and gives the suppository a non-oily and smooth surface. The coating will enhance the shelf-life of the suppository and allow their storage at room temperature for extended time period. The coating may or may not contain medicament such as local anesthetic or steroid. According to this invention chemically unstable fatty acids in coated suppositories can be used to stimulate the process of defecation or to treat disorders such as hemorrhoids, bacterial infections, viral infections and inflammations, as well as against fissura ani and pruritus ani. Furthermore, coating suppositories, that contain high concentrations of free fatty acids, can reduce acid induced rectal irritation.
Abstract:
The present invention concerns the field of pharmaceutical technology and relates to a suppository for rectal administration comprising at least one pellet, in particular, a pellet comprising the proton pump inhibitor pantoprazole. In addition, the present invention concerns a process for preparing such a suppository.
