In one instance, a reduced-pressure interface (108) includes a conduit housing (126) having a cavity (130) divided by a dividing wall (132) into a reduced-pressure-application region (138) and a pressure-detection region (140). The reduced-pressure interface (108) further includes a reduced-pressure port (142) disposed within the reduced-pressure-application region (138), a pressure-detection port (150) disposed within the pressure-detection region (140), and a base (128) connected to the conduit housing, the base having a manifold-contacting surface (168). The dividing wall (132) includes a surface substantially coplanar with the manifold-contacting surface (168).

Abstract: According to one embodiment, a system for supplying insufflation fluid includes a trocar (14) having a primary pressure sensor (22) in or on the trocar (14) which is positioned into a patient cavity (20). The system is configured for supplying an insufflation fluid to the patient cavity (20) and measuring a pressure in the patient cavity (20) by the primary pressure sensor (22). The system is further configured for controlling the supply of insufflation fluid by an insufflator (10) to the patient cavity (20) based at least on the measured pressure and determining by a processor associated with the insufflator (10) that the measured pressure may be inaccurate and in response, controlling, by the insufflator (10), the supply of insufflation fluid to the patient cavity (20) based at least on a pressure measured by a backup pressure sensor (26) rather than based on the measured pressure.

Abstract: Disclosed is a chest drainage system which reduces or eliminates pooling of blood/liquid and/or clogging/clotting in the drainage tube and/or chest tube, and provides objective and accurate measures of drained fluid volume and chest air leak. The chest drainage system continuously monitors chest tube and drainage tube status and clears pooled liquid in the drainage tube, and/or a clogged chest tube when necessary to restore negative pressure to the chest.

Abstract: A pressure switch for controlling application of negative pressure to dressing disposed adjacent a tissue site is disclosed. The pressure switch comprises a body having a base, sidewalls extending from the base to an open end, and an inlet coupled to the dressing and forming a passage through the body. The pressure switch further comprises a diaphragm closing the open end of the sidewalls and forming a vacuum chamber with the body, wherein the inlet fluidly couples the vacuum chamber and the dressing. The pressure switch further comprises a valve disposed in the passage and configured to restrict the flow of gas through the passage so that a switch pressure developed in the vacuum chamber as a result of the application of negative pressure to the dressing lags a wound pressure at the tissue site to delay, wherein the diaphragm is adapted to be operatively responsive to the switch pressure to move between a relaxed position and a compressed position as the negative pressure increases and decreases. This pressure switch further comprises a switching element coupled to the diaphragm to turn on the negative pressure in the relaxed position and turn off the negative pressure in the compressed position. In another example, a method for controlling application of negative pressure to dressing disposed adjacent a tissue site using a pressure switch is disclosed. In another example, a system for applying negative pressure to a tissue site using a pressure switch is disclosed.

Abstract: Disclosed is a chest drainage system which reduces or eliminates pooling of blood/liquid and/or clogging/clotting in the drainage tube. Generally, the chest drainage system continuously monitors chest tube status and clears pooled liquid when necessary to restore negative pressure to the chest. The system may include a valve device which is located between the patient's chest tube and drainage tube and may be used with any standard chest tube. The chest drainage system also includes a controller for monitoring the pressure at or near the valve device and/or at or near the suction device, and possibly a pump for assisting in clearance of pooled liquid and/or clots. The controller may also control the valve device and/or suction device in response to pressure signals.

Abstract: Apparatus and methods provide compliance management tools such as for respiratory pressure therapy. In some versions, a respiratory pressure therapy system may include one or more processors, such as of a data server, configured to communicate with a computing device and/or a respiratory pressure therapy device. The respiratory pressure therapy device may be configured to deliver respiratory pressure therapy to a patient for a session. The computing device may be associated with the patient. The processor(s) may be further configured to compute a therapy quality indicator of the session from usage data relating to the session. The therapy quality indicator may be a number derived from contributions of a plurality of usage variables for the session in the usage data. The processor(s) may be further configured to present, such as by transmitting, the therapy quality indicator to the computing device. The therapy quality indicator may promote patient compliance.

Abstract: A pressure differential across a blood pump and/or a flow rate of blood pumped by the blood pump is estimated based at least in part on impeller thrust load. A blood pump for a circulation assist system includes a housing forming a blood flow channel, an impeller, one or more support members coupled to the housing, a sensor, and a controller operatively coupled with the sensor. At least one of the one or more support members react a thrust load applied to the impeller by blood impelled through the blood flow channel by the impeller. The sensor generates output indicative of the magnitude of the thrust load. The controller is configured to process the sensor output to estimate at least one of a pressure differential across the blood pump and a flow rate of blood pumped by the blood pump.
