Abstract: An exemplary method for intelligent compression defines a threshold value for a temperature reading generated by a temperature sensor. Data blocks received into the compression module are compressed according to either a first mode or a second mode, the selection of which is determined based on a comparison of the active level for the temperature reading to the defined threshold value. The first compression mode may be associated with a lossless compression algorithm while the second compression mode is associated with a lossy compression algorithm. Or, both the first compression mode and the second compression mode may be associated with a lossless compression algorithm, however, for the first compression mode the received data blocks are produced at a default high quality level setting while for the second compression mode the received data blocks are produced at a reduced quality level setting.

Abstract: This application provides a communication method and a related apparatus. The method includes: generating a physical layer protocol data unit PPDU, where the PPDU includes a first signal field, the first signal field includes a resource unit allocation subfield and at least one user field corresponding to each user, the resource unit allocation subfield indicates a frequency domain resource allocated to the user corresponding to each user field, the user corresponding to each user field includes a first user that uses joint source and channel coding, the PPDU further includes a second signal field of the first user that uses joint source and channel coding, the second signal field of the first user indicates a joint source and channel coding parameter of a source layer corresponding to the first user, and the second signal field of the first user is located on a frequency domain resource allocated to the first user; and sending the PPDU. Embodiments of this application are implemented, so that complexity of reading a signal field by all users can be reduced.

Abstract: A coding efficiency increase is achieved by using a common signalization within the bitstream with regard to both activation of merging and activation of the skip mode. That is, one of the possible states of one or more syntax elements within the bitstream may signalize for a current sample set of a picture that the respective sample set is to be merged and has no prediction residual encoded and inserted into the bitstream. Alternatively speaking, a common flag may commonly signalize whether the coding parameters associated with a current sample set are to be set according to a merge candidate or to be retrieved from the bitstream, and whether the current sample set of the picture is to be reconstructed merely based on a prediction signal depending on the coding parameters associated with the current sample set, without any residual data, or to be reconstructed by refining the prediction signal depending on the coding parameters associated with the current sample set by means of residual data within the bitstream.
