Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a video recording and reproducing device that can smoothly reproduce data resulting from video-recording stream data. SOLUTION: The video recording and reproducing device is configured such that when a digital satellite reception board 6 receives stream data and video recording start instruction, a video recording/reproduction management section 25 analyzes the received stream data to retrieve a sequence header, writes TS data after the detected sequence header to a storage device 10. When receiving a reproduction instruction, the video recording/reproduction management section 25 reads the TS data after the sequence header from the storage device 10 and an MPEG 2 decoder section 27 decodes the TS data to reproduce a video image and an audio signal.

Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To generate an output signal suitable for connection to a display device by which a display image is outputted by providing a process for ranking control(RC) information and a process for invalidating an auxiliary picture(AP) function when an auxiliary information option is effective. SOLUTION: A multiplexer 107 receives a main image signal 105 from a tuner, the tuner receives a signal from a source such as an antenna or a cable system and an auxiliary image signal 106 is received from the second turner, a VCR turner or another source. Further, a video processor is provided with an auxiliary information(AI) processing function including a single stripper for extracting auxiliary data from part of one or a plurality of video signals and a cyclic operation is executed between a main image and an auxiliary image so that RC information is processed concerning both of the main image and the auxiliary image when the RC option is called. Besides, the AP function is invalidated when the auxiliary information option is effective.

Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To telecast the commercial messages(CM) of multiple advertisement offerers by means of proper advertising charge by displaying another advertisement which is replaced in a broadcasting radio wave advertisement limit when the radio wave advertisement is replaced and displaying the broadcasting radio wave advertisement unless replacement is executed. SOLUTION: The CM data converting part 19 of an advertisement telecasting system 10 is connected to a CM preparing signal receiving part 17 and a CM selecting part 18. When CM data CMD1 (CMD2) stored in a CM database 15 is selected by the CM selecting part 18, selected CM data CMD1 (CMD2) is converted into the normal CM. Then a CM transmitting part 20 is connected to the CM selecting part 18 and the CM data converting part 19. When the received CM on the air is kept being broadcasted, the CM on the air is transmitted to a display device 16 as it is by the CM selecting part 18. When the CM of CM data CMD1 (CMD2) stored in the CM database 15 is broadcasted, the CM converted by the CM data converting part 19 is transmitted to a monitor 16.

Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To enable a user to execute navigation between plural hyper-text objects displayed on a display device by using a remote input device by selecting one of plural hyper-text objects based on a user input from the remote control device and displaying a selection indicator on the display device. SOLUTION: Plural hyper-text objects are displayed on the display device 12 and each hyper-text object expresses information stored in one server system. A user input inputted from the remote input device 11 is received by a client system 1, which one out of plural hyper-text objects is to be selected is judged based on the received user input and the judged hyper-text object is selected. Abstract: A novel advanced set top terminal capable of digital decompression, menu generation, interactivity and other advanced functional capabilities for use in a television program delivery system (200) is described. The invention relates to methods and apparatus for upgrading existing set top terminals (220) to provide menu generation capability and advanced functional capabilities. The invention is particularly useful in television program delivery systems (200) with hundreds of channels of programming, providing (i) menu driven program selection through the addition of an upgrade module (300) or menu generation card and (ii) advanced functional capabilities using a set of hardware upgrades (e.g., 130) and/or an expansion card. Specifically, the invention is an upgradeable system that supports advanced set top functionality through the use of internal software, hardware upgrades, an upgrade module and/or expansion cards. The upgraded hardware generally includes a microprocessor, various input/output ports (e.g., 308), processing circuitry (e.g., 108) and memory (e.g., 116). The invention results in an upgraded set top terminal that supports: menu generation; picture-on-picture displays; program catalogue services; interactive services; telephone caller identification; digital audio reception; VCR control; HDTV reception; and backyard satellite system interoperability, among other features and capabilities.
