Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To discharge electric charge stored in a smoothing capacitor while properly protecting inverters and three-phase electric motors on the occurrence of a crash.SOLUTION: A method of controlling a vehicle includes the steps of: turning on all the lower arm transistors of the inverters 41 and 42 while turning off the upper arm transistors; and thereafter applying a gate voltage V2 lower than the gate voltage V1 at fully on-state to at least any one of the upper arm transistors on the inverters 41 and 42 while turning on the lower arm transistors connected in series to the upper arm transistors of the inverters 41 and 42 to which the gate voltage V2 is applied when the motors MG1 and MG2 do not generate back electromotive forces.
