Abstract: PURPOSE:To obtain the titled substance useful as a fungicide for agriculture and gardening by one step in high yield, by reacting an arylthiol with a dialkylalkoxymethylene malonate in polyphosphoric acid, adding water to the reaction system, followed by heating. CONSTITUTION:Preferably 1mol arylthiol shown by the formulaI(R1 and R2 are H, halogen, lower alkyl, or lower alkoxy; or R1 and R2 together with C linked to them may form cycloalkyl group or heterocyclic group), wherein at least one ortho position of a mercapto group is H, is reacted with 1-1.5mol dialkylalkoxymethylene malonate shown by the formula II (R3 and R4 are lower alkyl) in polyphosphoric acid at a relatively low temperature of 40-80 deg.C, water is added to the reaction system, which is heated at 80 deg.C- the reflux temperature, to give the desired compound shown by the formula III.
