    摘要: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a polymer/liquid crystal composite material comprising a polymer and a liquid crystal, subjected to phase separation and compounding and having a high liquid crystal content and a display element comprising a low-voltage driving dimming layer using the composite material. SOLUTION: This polymer/liquid crystal composite material comprises a copolymer composed of at least two monomers in which either one of the monomers is an unsaturated hydrocarbon and the other is a copolymer of a carboxylic acid having an unsaturated bond, a derivative of the carboxylic acid having the unsaturated bond or an ester of an alcohol having the unsaturated bond and at least one kind of liquid crystal compound selected from the group consisting of fluorine atom-containing liquid crystal compounds and cyano group-containing liquid crystal compounds. The composite material is subjected to the phase separation and compounding.

    摘要: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a functional photochromic liquid crystal material where a random or anisotropic polymer network is formed by polymerizing a polymerizable disk liquid crystal monomer in a liquid crystal. SOLUTION: This liquid crystal optical material is obtained by forming a polymer network by photopolymerization of a disk liquid crystal monomer in a liquid crystal; specifically, such a polymer network is formed as follows: when a non-orientation treated cell is used, a random polymer network is formed in a composite membrane; in a composite membrane made by using a nematic liquid crystal and a parallel rubbing cell, a polymer network anisotropic in a substrate intraplanar direction is formed by polymerization in a nematic phase condition; or, in a composite membrane made by using a smectic liquid crystal and a parallel rubbing cell, an anisotropic polymer network having a laminated structure in the smectic liquid crystal layer is formed by polymerizing a photopolymerizable disk liquid crystal monomer in a smectic phase condition.
