Abstract: A nickel/alumina/silicate catalyst has an atomic ratio Ni/Al of 20-2, a mol. ratio Ni/silicate of 20-1, an active nickel surface area of 70-150 m2/g, and a pore size of 4-20 nms. The catalyst has an open porous structure with macropores of 50-500 nms and a mesopore structure of pore size 8-20 nms. The macropores are formed by interconnected catalyst platelets. The catalyst is useful for hydrogenating unsatd. organic cpds., esp. unsatd triglyceride oils.
