摘要: A pumping mechanism is disclosed that includes a plurality of peristaltic pumping actuators configured to selectively and sequentially compress adjacent portions of a first portion of an at least partially compressible pumping element having an inlet that is upstream of an outlet. The plurality of pumping actuators are further configured to reciprocate at a common drive frequency with a first phase offset between each adjacent pair of pumping actuators. The pumping mechanism also includes at least one compensation actuator arranged to selectively compress a second portion of the at least partially compressible pumping element that is disposed between the first portion and the outlet. The at least one compensation actuator is configured to reciprocate at an optimal displacement and at a modulation frequency that is an integer multiple of the fundamental drive frequency and with a second phase offset between the at least one compensation actuator and the adjacent pumping actuator.

摘要: An infusion data communication system provides a communication link among a fluid container, an infusion pump, and a patient through which identification data may be communicated. Data devices are located at the fluid container and the patient and conduct low frequency RF energy at a low power level containing the data into the medical fluid. The data-laden RF energy propagates through the medication fluid to data readers at the infusion pump which receives the RF energy and reads the data. A comparison is made to verify that the right medication is mounted to the infusion pump for administration to the right patient. RFID devices may be used for the data devices and readers. Pump programming data may also be propagated to the infusion pump from the container RFID tag. The RFID device at the patient may be writable and may be used to store a patient MAR.

摘要: In a patient controlled analgesia (PCA) system, physiological data is processed and alarms are provided by the controller of the physiological module sensing the data according to a first rule. The physiological data is also processed by a second, separate controller according to a second rule independent from the first controller. According to the second rule, the physiological data may be filtered, processed with physiological data and non-physiological data obtained from another source, such as a remote server, and the PCA delivery device controlled to prevent delivery of medication accordingly. The provided system of multiple processors and rules enables normal alarming by physiological sensor modules while the pausing or prevention of the PCA delivery is controlled by a separate controller. Through this means, not only are false pauses and alarms for PCA delivery reduced, but the normal alarms of the monitors are permitted to function normally.

摘要: A system and method for monitoring changes in the pressure of a fluid line upstream of an infusion pump to determine when a fluid container has emptied, and to provide a signal indicating that the container needs replacement or replenishment. The difference between averaged pressures over separate time periods is monitored to determine when the fluid container is empty. The system and method are applicable to primary and secondary fluid container setups and can detect the point where the secondary has been emptied and the primary flow has resumed.

摘要: The concentration of air in a fluid delivery line is determined by monitoring output signals corresponding to the amount of air detected in the fluid and processing those signals along with information as to the time or total volume of fluid dispensed since each signal was produced. The processor determines an air concentration value based on the received signal values, with the air concentration value determined by giving greater weight to more recent signal values. Where the air concentration value exceeds a predetermined value, an alarm signal may be activated or fluid delivery may be stopped. The processor also may determine a secondary air concentration value, which may be determined from the raw signal values instead of the weighted signal values. Where the secondary air concentration value exceeds a second predetermined threshold, an alarm signal may be activated or fluid delivery may be stopped.

摘要: A system for noninvasively continuously monitoring arterial blood pressure includes a tissue stress sensor that has a continuous diaphragm for sensing stress within tissue adjacent a preselected artery caused by arterial pulsations within that artery. The stress sensitive diaphragm is coupled with electromechanical means for producing electrical signals that represent the stress within the tissue that is communicated to the sensor. These signals are then processed electronically in order to yield an output that is indicative of the arterial blood pressure of the preselected artery. The disclosed system includes methods of operation for determining blood pressure while maintaining a preselected artery in an optimum applanation state and an off-optimum applanation state.

摘要: A device for mounting a tonometry sensor upon a patient's wrist includes a base portion that is specifically adapted to generally conform to the patient's wrist while providing a stable placement of the tonometry sensor relative to a preselected artery. A sensor housing is movably mounted upon the base portion and configured such that the mounting device has an essentially equal thickness at each end of the device. A strap member is provided for releasably securing the mounting device to a patient's wrist. The mounting device facilitates more accurate, non-invasive blood pressure measurement by providing a stable placement of the tonometry sensor relative to the tissue overlying a preselected artery at a measurement location and, further, limits undesirable movement by the patient to thereby reduce undesirable error in the blood pressure measurement.

摘要: Bidirectional flow patterns are induced in a fluid supply line and the reverse flow resistance and the forward flow resistance are measured and compared. A measure of the resistance to flow is made by normalizing a sum of the entire pressure response about a pressure baseline according to the volume of fluid in the bidirectional flow pattern. In the event that the cannula is positioned near or against the vessel wall, the resulting relatively large negative pressure response can indicate the positional irregularity. In one embodiment, a time period of zero flow is included between the positive and negative flow volumes to permit the system to stabilize.
