Abstract: A monitoring service analyzes client-based monitoring data in correlation with network-based monitoring data for paths between two endpoints in a network upon request from a client. The endpoint can be any valid private IP address or DNS name where traffic is to be sent. Clients may define parameters for the monitoring, including thresholds for identifying network issues based on the client-based monitoring data. Different levels of network-based monitoring may be performed responsive to results of the correlation and continued performance determinations relative to the thresholds. The client-based and network-based monitoring data may include reports of performance signals, such as packet loss and round-trip time or other measured latency, as well as events such as connection issues and timeouts. The monitoring data from the different sources can be compared to determine whether a network issue is present in the network or outside of the network/in the client.

Abstract: An emulation mode for network devices is described as a means of isolating a defective network device from real network traffic, while continuing to transmit faux traffic to the defective network device, wherein the faux traffic is intentionally dropped. The emulation mode allows the defective network device to be tested in an environment that appears real, without impacting user traffic. A management server can control one or more neighbor network devices and place them in the emulation mode as a way to isolate and test the defective network device. In the emulation mode, the neighbor network device monitors for packets that, based on previous routing history, would be sent to the defective network device and, instead, routes them to functioning network devices using a current FIB. A virtual RIB/FIB can also be used to route the same packets to the defective network device.

Abstract: A computer implemented method includes determining a hierarchical graph of a network of entities. The method further includes determining event data from a plurality of events. The method also includes applying a plurality of statistical models on the event data corresponding to each of the plurality of the events and the hierarchical graph. Each of the statistical models generates a model output data for each of the plurality of events. The method further includes generating a model output data based on the model output data corresponding to each of the plurality of statistical models by using a first cost function. The method also includes generating a set of data based on the model output data by using a second cost function. The method further includes determining one or more entities of the network experiencing packet loss based on the set of data.
