Abstract: An anode active material comprises a silicon-carbon secondary particle comprising a composite having an exterior conformal carbon coating and formed of type I primary particles. Each type I primary particle comprises a core particle of interconnected silicon, the interconnected silicon formed of nano-sized silicon particles each connected to at least one other particle, inner pores internal to the core particle and defined by the interconnected silicon, an internal carbon coating on internal wall surfaces of the inner pores and a conformal carbon coating on the core particle.

Abstract: The present disclosure is directed to variable discharging protocols for one or more battery cells of a lithium-ion battery that improve the lifetime of the lithium-ion battery and/or the cell capacity of the battery. A battery management unit (BMU) controller of the lithium-ion battery may determine a number of cycles undergone by the one or more battery cells and modify a cut-off voltage (e.g., a lower cut-off voltage) based on the number of cycles. For example, the BMU controller may decrease the LCV after the number of cycles exceeds a threshold or is within a threshold range.

Abstract: An electrochemical cell has an anode comprising a silicon-based active material, a cathode comprising a cathode active material, and an electrolyte having no ethylene carbonate. The electrolyte comprises a solvent, the solvent being 20 wt % to 50 wt % propylene carbonate with the remainder being a linear solvent, a lithium salt, and less than 15 wt % of one or more additives. The silicon-based anode active material has a specific capacity of ≥700 mAh/g.
