Abstract: An aircraft and method of manufacture therefor are provided. A fuselage is formed of composite materials and in at least two sections, each section having an integral, internal longeron spanning a length of the sections. The sections are connected by slidingly engaging a male dovetail connector on a longeron of one section with a female dovetail connector on a longeron of another section. Outer edges of the sections of the fuselage have tongue-and-groove connectors that engage to fasten the edges of one section to the edges of another section as the sections are slidingly connected. Fasteners are inserted through the longerons, and other fasteners are inserted through the connectors of the outer edges.

Abstract: A fastener has male and female sections, each section having an elongate portion and a head with an outer diameter larger than that of the elongate portion. The elongate portion of the male section has external threads, and the elongate portion of the female section has internal threads for engaging the threads of the male section. The outer end of the male section is castellated and has a threaded cavity. The head of each of the sections receives a tool for tightening the sections together. The female section has a hole through the center of its head that aligns with the cavity in the castellated portion. A tapered, threaded lock screw is inserted into the hole and rotated to cause the threads to engage the cavity, the segments of the castellated portion deforming radially outward and causing a large normal force between the threads on the segments and the threads of the female section.

Abstract: A multi-redundant inlaid wiring harness provides for alternate electrical or optical pathways in an aircraft wiring system. A plurality of conduits are inlaid between layers of composite fabric during fabrication of a section of an aircraft. The conduits are connected at their ends to computer-controlled gateway buses. The buses select a pathway between the buses from the number of possible pathways. If the selected pathway is later damaged, the buses select a new pathway and reroute the power or signal over the new pathway. Conduit selection is based on any of several hierarchies including path of least resistance and shortest or fastest path.

Abstract: An apparatus and method for flight control of an aircraft provides a body with adjustable intake ports ducting air into an internal intake manifold. Adjusting the openings of the intake ports changes the amount of air flowing over the surfaces surrounding the intakes, changing the amount of lift created by those surfaces. The intake manifold feeds air to at least one engine, and an exhaust manifold communicates the exhaust of the engine to exhaust exit ports. The exhaust manifold contains a plurality of moveable components that direct exhaust within the exhaust manifold and to particular exhaust exit ports for producing various levels of force imbalance among the exit ports. A compressor powered by the engine provides air to bleed-air ports on the wings. Varying lift on the forward surfaces with the intake ports, vectored exhaust, and bleed air are used to control and stabilize the aircraft during flight, obviating the need for aerodynamic control surfaces.
