Abstract: There is provided a display arrangement comprising an ultrasonic biometric sensing device. The display arrangement comprises: a cover plate having a sensing surface configured to be touched by a finger; a display panel comprising a plurality of sub-layers; a plurality of ultrasonic transducers arranged along the periphery of the display arrangement and outside of an active display area of the display arrangement, each ultrasonic transducer comprising a top and bottom electrode; and ultrasonic transducer control circuitry to control the ultrasonic transducers to determine properties of an object in contact with the sensing surface. One of the sub-layers in the display panel comprises a protruding portion extending outside of an area of any other sub-layer located between the sub-layer comprising the protruding portion and the cover plate, and the plurality of ultrasonic transducers are arranged on the protruding portion between the protruding portion and the cover plate.

Abstract: A method for controlling a plurality of ultrasonic transducers in a fingerprint sensing system that comprises a cover plate having a sensing surface configured to be touched by a finger, and a plurality of ultrasonic transducers located at the periphery of the cover plate and configured to transmit an acoustic signal propagating in the cover plate, receive an ultrasonic signal having interacted with an object in contact with the sensing surface, and to determine properties of the object based on the received ultrasonic signal. The method comprises: in response to a first input, controlling the plurality of transducers such that at least a portion of the sensing surface has a first feature detection resolution; and in response to a second input, controlling the plurality of transducers such that at least a portion of the sensing surface has a second feature detection resolution, different from the first feature detection resolution.

Abstract: A biometric imaging device configured to capture an image of an object in contact with an outer surface of the imaging device, comprising: an at least partially transparent display panel comprising a repeating transmission pattern defined by an array of display unit cells, each display unit cell having the same transmission pattern; an image sensor comprising a photodetector pixel array arranged underneath the display panel; and a collimator layer arranged between the display panel and the image sensor that comprises a plurality of first collimating structures having a first collimator opening size and a plurality of second collimating structures having a second collimator opening size different from the first collimator opening size, wherein the respective collimator opening size and relative location of the first and second collimating structure in relation to the display unit cell is based on the transmission pattern of the display unit cell.

Each sensing element comprises a protective dielectric top layer to be touched by the finger; a first electrode comprising an optically transparent electrically conductive sensing structure arranged underneath the top layer; fingerprint sensing circuitry connected to the first electrode and configured to provide an analog sensing signal indicative of a distance between the finger and the sensing structure, a second electrode arranged underneath the first electrode; an organic light emitting layer arranged between the first and second electrodes; display element control circuitry connected to the second electrode and configured to control a display element comprising the first and second electrodes and the organic light emitting layer; and a switching mechanism configured to switch the sensing element between a fingerprint sensing mode and a display mode.
