Abstract: This application discloses a communication method and a device, and belongs to the communication field. The method includes: generating a passive optical network PON data frame, where the PON data frame includes an overhead area, the overhead area includes at least a part of a first timestamp, and the first timestamp is for time synchronization; and sending the PON data frame. This application can reduce operation overheads for parsing a PON data frame. This application is for time synchronization between an OLT and an ONU.
