Implementations of speedy boot for computer systems are disclosed. In an exemplary embodiment, a method of speedy boot for a computer system may include invoking a platform management interrupt (PMI) to soft reset a processor without resetting hardware for the processor. The method may also include bypassing at least some initialization procedures and tests to speed recovery of the computer system to a usable state. The method may also include resetting operating system interfaces and loading the operating system.

The invention involves storing a set of initial fields in an initial table, with each field having a plurality of entries; storing a definition for at least one additional field having a plurality of entries, wherein the at least one additional field is not stored; storing a common value that is common to at least two entries of the plurality of entries in the at least one additional field; and storing at least one other value that is different from the common value for the remainder of entries of the plurality of entries in the at least one additional field.

The present disclosure is directed to managing write commands for a storage system implementing address indirection. In some storage systems, a mapping table that provides logical-to-physical mapping may have individual entries that each references a logical address size that exceeds the size of an atomic write to the storage media. In such systems, a write to a logical address is not atomic as it may require several discrete physical writes that may individually fail. The techniques presented employ several pre-commit and post-commit actions to save data that enables the storage system to make writes to these logical addresses atomic and prevent undue delay on powerup.
