The proposed method and apparatus simplifies the task of selecting diagnostic findings indicated by a medical image by constraining all the possible selections of diagnostic findings to those appropriate for the specific clinical context represented by an image being acquired or viewed. Further, the proposed method and apparatus makes available the clinical context represented by an image without overt action by the person acquiring the image by utilizing the concept of a predefined exam protocol containing a set of views each describing an image to be acquired, and including with each view the clinical context that is to be associated with each image acquired for that view. In other words, the proposed method and system allows making available for selection only those diagnostic findings that are clinically relevant to any one of the views.

The perception data is passed to a transform processor, which also receives an ambient light signal from an ambient light sensor. The transform processor converts the perception values to respective digital driving levels based on the ambient light signal and display characteristics of a display device to which the digital driving levels are applied to maintain optimal image display under varying ambient light conditions.

A method of exam protocol creation in a diagnostic imaging system includes initiating a non-protocol diagnostic imaging exam with the diagnostic imaging system. Concurrently with implementation of the initiated non-protocol diagnostic imaging exam, procedural characteristics of the non-protocol diagnostic imaging exam are recorded, wherein recording includes automatic system recording. In addition, the method includes defining a diagnostic imaging exam protocol in response to the recorded procedural characteristics of the non-protocol diagnostic imaging exam. Defining includes producing an automatic system generated definition of the diagnostic imaging exam protocol as a function of information extracted from the recorded procedural characteristics.
