Abstract: Embodiments of the present disclosure describe a metal-organic framework (MOF) composition comprising a plurality of metal clusters, wherein the metal is chromium; and one or more tetratopic ligands; wherein the metal clusters and ligands associate to form a MOF with soc topology. A method of making a MOF comprising contacting a template MOF of formula Fe-soc-MOF and a reactant including chromium in a presence of dimethylformamide sufficient to replace Fe with Cr and form an exchanged MOF of formula Cr-soc-MOF. A method of sorbing water vapor comprising exposing a Cr-soc-MOF to an environment; and sorbing water vapor using the Cr-soc-MOF.

Abstract: A method for capturing carbon dioxide (CO2) from a humid gas stream is provided. In certain embodiments, the gas stream is a humid natural gas combine cycle (NGCC) exhaust stream. In certain embodiments, the gas stream is a humid air stream. The humid gas stream comprises CO2 and oxygen (O2). In the method, the humid gas stream is contacted with a metal organic framework (MOF) material KAUST-7. The CO2 from the humid gas stream is captured with the KAUST-7 MOF material to generate a CO2-concentrated gas stream comprising approximately 1-30% of CO2.

Abstract: A method for capturing CO2 from a gas stream using a metal organic framework (MOF) based physisorbent CO2 concentrator is provided. In the method, MOF material is pretreated, a gas stream is then introduced into the CO2 concentrator which comprises the pretreated MOF material. CO2 from the gas stream is captured with the CO2 concentrator to generate a CO2-free stream, which is discharged the from the CO2 concentrator into the atmosphere. Introduction of the gas stream into the CO2 concentrator is stopped when the pretreated MOF material becomes saturated with CO2. The CO2 concentrator with the saturated MOF material is then regenerated by introducing hot air, hot nitrogen, vacuum, or a combination thereof into the CO2 concentrator thereby generating a CO2-rich stream. The CO2-rich stream is diverted for purification and the regenerated CO2 concentrator is recycled for future capture of CO2.
