Abstract: The disclosure is of an all weather gas supply unit for delivering generally inert gas to a sealed storage structure for atmosphere control. In the system, a gas generator combustion chamber exhausts generally oxygen-free gas to a condenser and thence to an icing arrester, the condenser being cooled by ambient air in a cooling shroud system enveloping the condenser and combustion chamber, and the icing arrester serving to collect ice from the gas exhaust when the arrester is in a freezing ambient. The condenser and arrester have water collecting and draining assemblies which are kept from freezing by a heating system such as scavenger air shrouds extending from the cooling shroud. A heating system in the cooling air shroud intake keeps the exhaust in the condenser to temperatures above freezing.

Abstract: A storage unit having a gas generator connected to a generally sealed storage structure for supplying a controlled atmosphere gas to the structure. The generator is controlled by initiating generator operation when the storage structure pressure declines to a predetermined differential with the ambient, and by terminating generator operation when pressure in the storage structure builds to a second predetermined differential above the value of the first. A set of pressure switches in communication with storage pressure detect the predetermined differentials and start and stop the generator through an interlocking switching circuit connecting the switches to a generator control. The interlocking switching circuit includes a timer which precludes the pressure switches from frequent starting and stopping of the generator.

Abstract: A sealed storage system such as a silo having a breathing system including a flexible pressure-responsive member having one surface exposed to the pressure within the silo and the opposite surface exposed to atmospheric pressure. An atmosphere control apparatus is provided and includes a gas separator through which gas from the structure is circulated. The separator includes a series of membranes which selectively separate oxygen from the gas so that substantially oxygen-free gas is returned to the storage structure. The atmosphere control apparatus supplies the oxygen-free gas through a reservoir that also contains the silo breathing system.

Abstract: A sealed storage structure such as a silo having a breather system including a flexible breather bag or equivalent pressurebalancing member. To increase the pressure-balancing capacity of the breather system, a gas cooler assembly is provided. Conduit members connect the cooler assembly to the interior of the silo and to a blower unit to provide a closed gas recirculation path. The cooler and blower are controlled by a thermostat switch within the silo, which switch is set to initiate the recirculation operation at a predetermined maximum temperature and to similarly terminate operation at a predetermined minimum temperature.
