Abstract: In an optical modulator, a light-receiving element (3a) that receives a light wave modulated in an optical modulation section (Ma) and a light-receiving element (3b) that receives a light wave modulated in an optical modulation section (Mb) are provided in a substrate. In addition, at least a part of an electrical line (4a) that guides a light-receiving signal output from the light-receiving element (3a) to an outer side of the substrate, and at least apart of an electrical line (4b) that guides a light-receiving signal form the light-receiving element (3b) to an outer side of the substrate are formed in the substrate. In addition, crosstalk suppression means (5), which suppress crosstalk between the electrical line (4a) and the electrical line (4b), is provided between the part of the electrical line (4a) and the part of the electrical line (4b) which are formed in the substrate.

Abstract: An optical modulator with FPC and optical transmission device using the same are provided. This optical modulator includes a flexible printed circuit which electrically connects the optical modulator to a circuit board. The flexible printed circuit has a substantially quadrilateral shape. A pad is formed on the flexible printed circuit along one side of the substantially quadrilateral shape so as to be electrically connected to the circuit board. In order to release the mechanical stress applied onto the side or the end portion of the flexible printed circuit and/or to prevent propagation of distortion generated in the side or the end portion, the flexible printed circuit has: a cutout or a notch provided in a direction from a part of at least one side toward the inside of the flexible printed circuit; and/or a curved portion connecting at least two adjacent sides.

Abstract: Provided is an optical modulator module in which a modulation substrate having a plurality of optical modulation units is stored inside a package case. The optical modulator module includes a plurality of signal supply lines configured to supply a modulation signal to the optical modulation unit through a connector terminal which is introduced into the package case. At least two or more of the plurality of signal supply lines are set such that the signal supply lines have overall electrical lengths which are different from each other. A particular part of the signal supply line employs at least one of the following configurations (a) and (b): (a) setting the signal supply line having a longer overall electrical length to have a wider cross-sectional area of a surface perpendicular to a direction in which the modulation signal propagates; and (b) setting a cross-sectional area of the particular part to be wider than cross-sectional areas of parts other than the particular part and setting the signal supply line having a longer overall electrical length to have the particular part increased in length.

Abstract: There is provided an integration-type optical modulation device which performs polarization-beam-combining on two linearly polarized light beams respectively output from a plurality of optical modulation elements and outputs the resultant beam so as to seek an improvement and stabilization of optical characteristics, miniaturization, and low cost. The optical modulation device includes: first and second optical modulation elements 102a and 120b that are disposed to output output light beams side by side and respectively output the two output light beams; first and second optical path shift elements 108a and 108b that respectively shift optical paths of the two output light beams from the first optical modulation element and optical paths of the two output light beams from the second optical modulation element in first and second directions; and first and second polarization beam combining elements 110a and 110b that respectively combine the two output light beams after passing through the first and second optical path shift elements into one beam and outputs the one beam, in which the first optical path shift element and the second optical path shift element are integrally formed as one optical component.

Abstract: An optical modulator includes a first optical modulation section and a second optical modulation section which use modulation signals different from each other when applying a modulation signal to the modulation electrode and performing optical modulation. In addition, a light-receiving element is disposed on a substrate, and the light-receiving element has a first light-receiving section that detects optical signal propagating from a first waveguide which guides the optical signal output from the first optical modulation section. In addition, the light-receiving element also has a second light-receiving section that detects an optical signal propagating through a second waveguide which guides the optical signal output from the second optical modulation section.
