Abstract: A display apparatus includes a display panel, a gate driver, a data driver and a driving controller. The display panel displays an image based on input image data. The gate driver outputs a gate signal to a gate line of the display panel. The data driver outputs a data voltage to a data line of the display panel. The driving controller controls operations of the gate driver and the data driver and drive a still image display area and a video image display area of a display area of the display panel in different driving frequencies. The driving controller includes a still image determiner which divides the input image data into a plurality of still image determining blocks, respectively determines whether the still image determining blocks represent a still image or a video image and determines a boundary between the still image display area and the video image display area.

Abstract: A display driver includes a still image detector configured to receive a compressed image bitstream at an input frame frequency from a host processor, and to detect a still image by comparing the compressed image bitstream of a current frame and the compressed image bitstream of a previous frame, a driving frequency changer configured to output the compressed image bitstream at a first output frame frequency equal to the input frame frequency when the still image is not detected, and to output the compressed image bitstream at a second output frame frequency lower than the input frame frequency when the still image is detected, and a decoder configured to generate original image data at the first output frame frequency and the second output frame frequency.

The driving controller includes a flicker value storage storing flicker values for grayscale values of the input image data and a data remapper converting the grayscale value of the input image data to decrease a size of a maximum frequency grayscale area corresponding to a maximum driving frequency in the low frequency driving mode.
