Abstract: The negative electrode for a lithium ion secondary battery includes: a current collector; and a negative electrode active material layer which is in contact with at least one surface of the current collector, the negative electrode active material layer has a negative electrode active material and a binder, the negative electrode active material contains a material that can be alloyed with Li, the binder contains a predetermined copolymer, and a specific surface area of a surface of the negative electrode active material layer on a side opposite to the current collector side is 7.0 m2/g or more and 16.0 m2/g or less.
