Abstract: Disclosed are various examples for top-of-rack (TOR) switch replacement in hyper-converged computing environments. A hyper-converged management service can maintain network configurations applied to a first network switch of a rack. When the performance of the first network switch does not satisfy a performance threshold, the hyper-converged management service can decommission the first network switch in the rack and configure a second network switch for replacement of the first network switch in the rack by accessing the at least one network configuration applied to the first network switch from the memory and applying the at least one network configuration to the second network switch.

Abstract: In a computer-implemented method for using a nested host manager in a hyper converged infrastructure to streamline the upgrade process for one or more hosts in a workload domain, a first workload domain having one or more hosts is chosen, and at least one host of the one or more hosts is designated for an upgrade. The resource allotment of the at least one host is evaluated and a nested host having a comparable resource allotment is selected and provided in a second workload domain. Communication is redirected from the at least one host to the nested host. The at least one host is placed in a maintenance mode, updated, and returned to an operational mode.

Abstract: Disclosed are various examples for device replacement for device replacement in hyper-converged infrastructure environments. A workload hash for a workload to be processed by a hyper-converged compacting device can be compared to a device hash for the hyper-converged computing device to determine whether to assign the workload to the hyper-converged computing device for processing. When a new device is added to a hyper-converged infrastructure environment, a device has for the new device can be generated and workloads having low resources can be identified for reassignment to the new device.

Abstract: In a computer-implemented method for upgrading a fault tolerant hyper-converged infrastructure in an environment with no additional physical infrastructure, a workload domain having a plurality of hosts is chosen for an upgrade. One or more conflict groups are calculated for each host, and a physical host in the workload domain is selected. A number and a size of one or more nested hosts is determined and a different nested host is created in a management cluster for each of the one more conflict groups in the physical host. A communication network provides communication between a virtual machine (VM) on the different nested host and a VM in the physical host. The physical host is put into a maintenance mode, upgraded, and then returned from the maintenance mode to an operational mode.

Abstract: A quick hardware inventory of a software-defined data center (SDDC) multi-rack is created. A hardware management server (HMS) receives an imaging of a first rack and performs a node hash of attributes of the imaging of the first rack. A hash database is then checked for an inventory hash that matches the node hash of the first rack. If a match is found, a rack inventory is loaded from a persistent rack data inventory correlated with the inventory hash instead of the HMS performing a discovery and inventory of the first rack. In addition, a sensor error log of the first rack is checked for any errors and the rack inventory is modified based on any errors in the sensor error log. The rack inventory is then saved into the server switch object cache of the HMS. The steps are repeated by the HMS for each additional rack.

Abstract: Methods, apparatus, systems, and articles of manufacture are disclosed for rack nesting in virtualized server systems. An example apparatus includes a resource discoverer to identify resources to be allocated to the nested rack based on a policy indicative of one or more physical racks from which to identify the resources, and determine candidate resources from the resources to be allocated to the nested rack based on a capacity parameter indicative of a quantity of the resources available to be allocated to the nested rack, the candidate resources to have first hypervisors, and a nested rack controller to generate the nested rack by deploying second hypervisors on the first hypervisors, the second hypervisors to facilitate communication between the candidate resources and one or more virtual machines on the second hypervisors, the nested rack to execute one or more computing tasks based on the communication.
