摘要: A leakage monitoring system for geomembranes comprises a power supply unit having two supply electrodes made from a nonmetallic conductive material and respectively connected to a membrane top and a membrane bottom of a primary geomembrane; a plurality of monitoring sensor electrodes made from the nonmetallic conductive material, uniformly arranged below the primary geomembrane and used for acquiring potentials at corresponding positions below the primary geomembrane; a data acquisition unit used for acquiring potential data of each monitoring sensing electrode; and a control and analysis unit used for analyzing the potential data of each monitoring sensor electrode acquired by the data acquisition unit, determining an abnormal potential area below the primary geomembrane to determine a leakage position of the primary geomembrane and giving an alarm. The abnormal potential area below the geomembrane can be determined to determine the specific leakage position of the geomembrane and give the alarm.

摘要: A system of panels for use in covering an active face of an operational landfill, in order to prevent and/or minimize litter, odors, leachate production, fires, and the prevalence of flies and vectors. Each panel comprises a plate; one or more brackets; and optionally, a flap. The brackets are adapted to engage with the blade of a compactor or other type of heavy equipment. The panels are moved to and from the active face of an operational landfill using the compactor. The panels are durable and fireproof, and can be transported in a variety of weather conditions. Transporting the panels to and from the active area is easy and efficient as compared with prior art methods.

摘要: A containment system for use adjacent to a selected region of a subterranean formation and comprising a plurality of laterally interlocked casing strings. At least one electrically conductive element is disposed along at least a portion of a casing string and is used for performing electrical time domain reflectometry. At least one protective element may be positioned between portions of adjacent casing strings of the barrier, and at least one electrically conductive element may be disposed at least partially within the at least one protective element for use in indicating at least one characteristic of at least a portion of the containment system. Electrical time domain reflectometry (TDR) may be used to indicate the at least one characteristic; for instance, TDR may be used to indicate leakage through the barrier or a discontinuity or void in a barrier filler material.

摘要: An advanced containment system for containing buried waste and associated leachate. A trench is dug on either side of the zone of interest containing the buried waste so as to accommodate a micro tunnel boring machine. A series of small diameter tunnels are serially excavated underneath the buried waste. The tunnels are excavated by the micro tunnel boring machine at a consistent depth and are substantially parallel to each other. As tunneling progresses, steel casing sections are connected end to end in the excavated portion of the tunnel so that a steel tube is formed. Each casing section has complementary interlocking structure running its length that interlocks with complementary interlocking structure on the adjacent casing section. Thus, once the first tube is emplaced, placement of subsequent tubes is facilitated by the complementary interlocking structure on the adjacent, previously placed, casing sections. Upon completion of the last tunnel, a series of parallel steel tubes has thus been emplaced underneath the buried waste. Because at least some of the casing sections include embedded sensors, both the casing sections and the zone of interest can be remotely monitored after the casings have been emplaced. Grout is then injected into each of the steel tubes and into the spaces created by the complementary interlocking structure of adjacent casings. The grout cooperates with the steel casing sections to form a substantially impermeable barrier that is chemically stable and impervious to chemical attack, thermal gradients, and changing geological conditions. Upon completion of the barrier, four vertical concrete walls are constructed, one wall being perpendicular to a corresponding edge of the barrier, and being adjacent thereto. The walls cooperate with the barrier to substantially contain the buried waste and associated leachate within the zone of interest.

摘要: A method of providing a substantially leakproof shielding layer in the ground. The method includes the following steps: a) making a plurality of substantially parallel holes (H) in the ground by means of a guided drill head (4) which ejects ground-decomposing liquid mainly in the advance direction of the head, and b) passing through each hole an injection head (6) which ejects injection liquid essentially transversely to the advance direction thereof, so that the injection liquid will penetrate into the ground material and mix therewith and after transition to a solid state, together with injection liquid in an adjacent hole, which has also penetrated into and mixed with the ground material and has been transformed into a solid state, will form part of the shielding layer. The invention further includes a device for performing the method.

摘要: A method for lining an existing waste disposal site having a waste level includes, for example: installing perimeter barrier walls about the site and interior barrier walls within the perimeter barrier walls to define cells; transferring waste, such as for example ash, from one of the cells to one or more other cells to form an empty cell with a layer of contaminated material at the bottom of the empty cell; removing the layer of contaminated material from the empty cell to form a clean cell with a noncontaminated bottom layer; installing a barrier liner layer in the clean cell to form a lined cell; and transferring waste from other cells into the lined cell.
