Abstract:
The invention concerns a device (2) for processing a medium (10), in particular for long-term storage and/or archiving the medium (10). The device comprises a sensor (62) for detecting a humidity value of the medium (10) and/or a medium-holder (4), a heating element (60), in order to dielectrically heat the medium (10) and/or the medium-holder (4), and a control element built such that it determines a heating power based on the detected humidity value, which is to be applied to the medium (10) and/or the medium-holder (4), in order to set the humidity of the medium (10) to a predetermined value. Further, the invention relates to a method for the corresponding processing of the medium (10) or the medium-holder (4).
Abstract:
An inkjet printer includes an ejector, a waveguide, an electromagnetic wave supplier, a rotating reflector, and a ventilator. The ejector ejects ink onto a medium. Through the waveguide, the medium onto which the ink was ejected passes. The waveguide has a starting end part and a terminal end part. The electromagnetic wave supplier is provided at the starting end part of the waveguide to supply an electromagnetic wave to the waveguide. The rotating reflector is provided at the terminal end part of the waveguide and rotatable to reflect the electromagnetic wave supplied by the electromagnetic wave supplier. The ventilator ventilates an inside of the waveguide.
Abstract:
A path for a material passes through an opening and along a segment through an off-peak region of an electric field. An E-plane bend delivers an electromagnetic wave to the segment. A standing wave is used to heat the material. The peaks or valleys are pushed or pulled by a movable surface or by changing the frequency of the electromagnetic wave. A rectangular choke flange is used at the opening to the segment. A curved segment connects the segment to another segment for heating the material. According to another aspect of the invention, a segment is used to heat just the edge of a planar material.
Abstract:
The present invention overcomes many of the problems associated with electromagnetic exposure of planar materials. A diagonal slot compensates for the effects of signal attenuation along the propagation path. Adjustably variable path lengths allow peaks and valleys of the electromagnetic field in one exposure segment to compensate for peaks and valleys in another exposure segment. Dielectric slabs may be used to extend the peak field region between top and bottom conducting surfaces to allow for more uniform exposure of planar materials that have a significant thickness. Specialized choke flanges prevent the escape of electromagnetic energy. One or more rollers between exposure segments may be enclosed by an outer surface to prevent the escape of electromagnetic energy.
Abstract:

The front and rear walls of the feed waveguide are respectively connected to the front and rear edges of the window, and the feed waveguide is associated with a guide flap extending in the cavity in the vicinity of the rear edge of the window, and with a guide member provided substantially facing the window. The front and rear walls of the feed waveguide include respective front and rear connection portions situated in the connection zone for connection with the window, and each being curved forwards substantially in the form of an arc of a circle, the guide flap is situated substantially in line with the rear connection portion, and the excitation system includes means for adjusting wave coupling.
Abstract:
An alternating current with a frequency comprised between 1 MHz and 10 GHz is generated in a portion of the conductor element (38) limited by two short circuits (12, 13), thereby causing a heating by Joule effect of said conductor element portion. To generate said current, the electromagnetic energy emitted by the microwave or high-frequency generator (1) emitting at the selected frequency is electrically or magnetically coupled by means of an applicator (2, 7) to the conductor element portion acting as antenna tuned on the emission frequency of the generator (1). Application, among other things, to the homogeneous coating of a conductor element, for example based on carbon fibres, carrying a continuous element, for example based on carbon fibres, carrying a continuous or discontinuous coating of thermoplastic material susceptible of heating and melting by thermal conduction.
Abstract:
A waveguide opening for moving paper in and/or out of a data printer employing wave attenuators and reflectors to suppress electromagnetic wave radiation generated within said printer from escaping through the paper opening.
Abstract:
A web-drying apparatus comprising a microwave developing means formed of opposed applicators defining a passage for movement of web surfaces in closely spaced relationship to the applicator surfaces. The applicators define ridge portions which serve to concentrate microwaves on web surface areas for generating heat which results in drying action. Air-circulating and supplying means are associated with the applicators for moving air through openings in the ridges and for withdrawing air through openings defined in depressed areas located intermediate the ridges.
Abstract:

A circuit is also provided for supplying a gas to remove vapor or moisture from material being heated.
