Abstract: A flexible dry fire protection sprinkler includes an inlet seal assembly sealing an inlet orifice, an inlet release unit to release the seal assembly, a flexible tube connected to the inlet release unit, a flexible linkage extending through the flexible tube, having an inlet end connected to the inlet release unit, an outlet biasing portion connected to an outlet end of the flexible tube and the flexible linkage, to displace the outlet end of the linkage upon activation, a sprinkler body connected to the outlet biasing portion, and an outlet seal assembly to seal an outlet orifice of the body until a predetermined temperature is reached. When reached, the outlet seal assembly releases from an outlet orifice of the body, and the outlet biasing portion displaces the linkage, causing the inlet end of the linkage to operate the inlet release unit, releasing the inlet seal assembly from the inlet orifice.

Abstract: A dry sprinkler has a casing tube having an inlet orifice and an outlet orifice. When the sprinkler is in a non-actuated state, an inlet seal assembly operatively seals the inlet orifice and an outlet seat assembly operatively seals the outlet orifice. A translating member extends through the casing tube between an inlet and an outlet. The translating member axially translates from a first position, in which the translating member retains the inlet seal assembly in a sealed state, to a second position, in which the translating member releases the inlet seal assembly, toward the outlet when the outlet seat assembly is released. The sprinkler has a nominal K-factor greater than 17 gpm/(psi)1/2. A difference between a cross-sectional area of the casing tube and a cross-sectional area bounded by an outer perimeter of the translating member is more than 30% of the cross-sectional area of the casing tube.

Abstract: A fire protection sprinkler system and related method for a storage area for one or more commodities or high energy commodities, the storage area having one or more racks that each includes one or more bays. The fire protection sprinkler system includes a piping network supplied by a source of fire protection fluid. The fire protection system includes a plurality of horizontal sidewall sprinklers. Each of the plurality of horizontal sidewall sprinklers has a K-factor of 11.2 gpm/(psi)1/2 or greater and is positioned horizontally at a perimeter of the racks to direct the fire protection fluid into the bays. Each of the plurality of horizontal sidewall sprinklers includes a deflector that distributes the fire protection fluid to a coverage area. The fire protection sprinkler system can also include vertical sidewall sprinklers positioned vertically and include a deflector that directs the fire protection fluid horizontally into the bays.

Abstract: A cover plate is configured to be releasably connected to a fire protection sprinkler to conceal the fire protection sprinkler. The cover plate includes a first layer of metal on a first side of the cover plate that faces the concealed fire protection sprinkler, and a second layer of metal on a second side of the cover plate, the second side being opposite to the first side. The second layer of metal is bonded to the first layer and is more resistant to corrosion than is the first layer. In addition, the first layer is more thermally conductive than is the second layer. The fire protection sprinkler is configured to activate upon activation of a thermally responsive element. The thermally responsive element is a bulb or a soldered link.

Abstract: A dry fire protection sprinkler in which, when a ratio of a pressure P1 of a pressurized fluid in a flexible tube to a pressure P3 of the fluid in a fluid supply line is less than a predetermined ratio of at least 3 to 1, a differential pressure controller sends a signal to a control valve to open, in order to allow the pressurized fluid in a pressurized fluid source at a pressure of P2 to enter the flexible tube, and, when the ratio of the pressure P1 of the pressurized fluid in the flexible tube to the pressure P3 of the fluid in the fluid supply line equals the predetermined ratio, the differential pressure controller sends a signal to the control valve to close.
