摘要: A high speed, high density electrical connector for use with printed circuit boards is described. The connector is manufactured with wafer assemblies that are supported by a stiffener. Each wafer includes two pieces; a first piece supports both signal and ground conductors and a second piece supports signal conductors. The disclosed embodiments are principally configured for carrying differential signals, though other configurations are discussed. For differential signals, the signal conductors are arranged in pairs. The two pieces are attached together such that the signal pairs are formed with the broadside of, the conductors disposed adjacent. The connector attaches to at least one circuit board using pressure mounted contacts.

摘要: An electrical connector for transferring a plurality of differential signals between electrical components. The connector is made of modules that have a plurality of pairs of signal conductors with a first signal path and a second signal path. Each signal path has a pair of contact portions, and an interim section extending between the contact portions. For each pair of signal conductors, a first distance between the interim sections is less than a second distance between the pair of signal conductors and any other pair of signal conductors of the plurality. Embodiments are shown that increase routability.

摘要: A high speed, high density electrical connector for use with printed circuit boards. The connector is in two pieces with one piece having pins and shield plates and the other having socket type signal contacts and shield plates. The shields have a grounding arrangement which is adapted to control the electromagnetic fields, for various system architectures, simultaneous switching configurations and signal speeds, allowing all of the socket type signal contacts to be used for signal transmission. Additionally, at least one piece of the connector is manufactured from wafers, with each ground plane and signal column injection molded into components which, when combined, form a wafer. This construction allows very close spacing between adjacent columns of signal contacts as well as tightly controlled spacing between the signal contacts and the shields. It also allows for easy and flexible manufacture, such as a connector that has wafers intermixed in a configuration to accommodate single ended, point to point and differential applications.

摘要: A connector assembly (28) for mounting a daughter board (20) on a mother board (66) and providing electrical connections therebetween. The connector assembly (28) is made up of a housing (74) mounted on the daughter board (20), a plurality of coaxial cable subassemblies (30), a faceplate member (76) and a cover member (78). The cable subassemblies (30) are held in the housing (74) with their two ends in positions corresponding to contact positions on the daughter board (20) and the mother board (66), with the cable subassemblies (30) being arranged to make a right angle turn. The faceplate member (76) includes a shroud portion (102) which surrounds contact assemblies (38) adapted for matingly engaging corresponding contact assemblies in a housing block (70) which is part of connector assembly (68) mounted on the mother board (66). The shroud portion (102) is sized to surround and frictionally engage the housing block (70). The cover member (78 ) of the connector assembly (28) is configured to position and hold the cable subassemblies (30) so as to protect them from rough handling or accidental shunting.
