摘要:
Devices and methods are provided for forming and securing a tissue plication. More particularly, the devices and methods of the present invention can be used to create tissue folds on an anterior and posterior wall of a stomach cavity to reduce the volume thereof. In one aspect, a tissue acquisition and fixation system is disclosed that includes an elongate shaft, an end effector coupled to the elongate shaft and having first and second jaws, and a tissue acquisition member coupled to the end effector by a linkage assembly. At least a portion of the linkage assembly and tissue acquisition member are slidably movable in a direction parallel to a longitudinal axis of the jaws. Further, the tissue acquisition member is vertically movable relative to the end effector such that a distance between a longitudinal axis of the tissue acquisition member and the jaws can be adjusted.

A surgical fastener applier having a handle and a fastener housing extending from the handle. The housing contains at least one anvil movable within the staple housing, the anvil has a proximal position and a distal position. When in the distal position a distal end of the anvil extends distal to the distal end of the staple housing. The housing contains a plurality of surgical fasteners each of which in the shape of a loop. At least one of the fasteners is placed around a portion of the anvil when in the distal position. The applier has a first mechanism for moving the anvil distally after a fastener has been deployed, and a second mechanism for moving the anvil distally after a fastener has been deployed. The second means is independent of the first means.

A method of plicating a hollow organ by accessing the exterior of a hollow organ of a patient. The method includes the steps of grasping tissue on first and second sides of a greater curvature of the organ and forming a first fold along a length the greater curvature by attaching the first and second sides together along a first attachment line with a first plurality of fasteners. The fasteners have a first spacing therebetween. The method also involves the steps of grasping tissue on first and second sides of a greater curvature of the organ and forming a second fold about the first fold along a length the first attachment line by attaching the first and second sides together along a second attachment line with a second plurality of fasteners having a second spacing therebetween. Wherein the second spacing is less than the first spacing and wherein the second spacing is less than 2 cm.

A tissue conveyor includes a conveyor body having a proximal end and a distal end. The proximal end includes a handle allowing for operator control of an end effector located at the distal end. The end effector includes a grasper assembly composed of a first jaw bar and a second jaw bar connected by a support base to define a cavity into which tissue is drawn. A first conveyor member is positioned upon the first jaw bar for movement along an internal surface of the first jaw bar and a second conveyor member is positioned upon the second jaw bar for movement along an internal surface of the second jaw bar. The method for creating a tissue fold includes positioning a tissue conveyor adjacent tissue, pushing the respective first jaw bar and the second jaw bar into the tissue in the area where a fold is desired, and pulling the first conveyor member and the second conveyor member proximally to draw the first and second conveyor members and tissue into a cavity defined by the first jaw bar and the second jaw bar to create a tissue fold.
摘要:
A method of deploying a surgical fastener using the steps of introducing a fastener into a body of a patient while the fastener is in a first shape forming a first loop. Moving end segments of the fastener away from each other substantially along an entire length thereof. And forming the fastener into a second loop having a width greater than a width of the first loop.

A method of insufflating the interior of a gastric cavity of a patient by accessing the gastric cavity of a patient, sealing the pyloric sphincter so as to prevent passage of fluids therethrough, and introducing a fluid within said gastric cavity proximal to the pyloric sphincter.

A method for endoscopically preventing insufflation of the small bowel during gastric procedures includes applying an obstruction member at the pyloric sphincter to block the passage of gas from the gastric cavity into the small bowel and insufflating the gastric cavity.

Devices and methods are provided for forming and securing a tissue plication. More particularly, the devices and methods of the present invention can be used to create multiple tissue folds on an anterior and posterior wall of a stomach cavity to reduce the volume thereof. In one aspect, a tissue acquisition and fixation system is described that includes a staple applying assembly having first and second jaws, and a tissue acquisition member that extends substantially parallel to a plane running through the first and second jaws. The tissue acquisition member is effective to engage and position tissue between the first and second jaws, and the jaws are effective to apply at least one staple to the tissue engaged therebetween.

Self-positioning of at least a portion of a transdermal electrical stimulation patch within a target area (e.g., supraclavicular fossa region) of a human body to activate a depot of brown adipose tissue therein. An electric field is generated using the electrical stimulation patch to activate the brown adipose tissue within the supraclavicular fossa region of the body. The patch is self-positioned using one or more anatomical points (e.g., anatomical landmarks and/or anatomical features) or markings on the body. Brown adipose tissue may also be activated by applying an electrical signal to a body piercing partially implanted proximate a target area in which the tissue is disposed.
