An uplink channel transmission power control method is provided for a CDMA mobile communication system performing one way communication. A base station measures the received level of data transmitted from each mobile terminal at each channel, and generates a transmission power control signal of each uplink traffic channel. The generated transmission power control signals are multiplexed, and the multiplexed common transmission power control signal is transmitted to all mobile terminals by using the common channel shared by the mobile terminals. Each mobile terminal derives the transmission power control signal of the uplink traffic channel used by the terminal, from the received common transmission power control signal, and controls the transmission power of a data packet.

A load required for a channel processing is compared with an allowable load, and a channel is assigned within the allowable load. When assignment of a busy channel is changed so as to be processed in another hardware, the synchronization of the processing is established first at the destination, then the channel is switched. In a mobile communication system using a code division multiple access (CDMA) method, spreading code detection and frame/slot timing synchronization (cell search) is conducted by using a long code masked symbol. The spreading factor of the long code masked symbol is set to a value lower than spreading factors of other ordinary symbols. As a result, it becomes possible to reduce the circuit scale and power dissipation of the mobile terminal and raise the speed of cell search.

It is desired to carry out CDMA communication using an optimum spread code for minimizing inter-channel interference according to communication conditions. For this purpose, under condition that a communication area covered by a base station is variable, notification of spread code reassignment is issued while communication is being made between the base station and a mobile terminal. Thereafter, a currently assigned spread code is changed so as to reduce interference between a channel used for communication in progress and another channel. In spread code reassignment, an adjustment is made to provide the same long code for channels which would otherwise incur significant interference.
