The present invention relates to systems and methods for establishing a data-path between a mobile station and a home access service network gateway (“ASN-GW”). During the authentication process, a visited ASN-GW receives a first message that identifies a home ASN-GW associated with the mobile station. After the mobile station has been authenticated, the visited ASN-GW receives a first data-path request message from a base station serving the mobile station, requesting a path for data-packet communication for the mobile station that extends between base station and the visited ASN-GW. The visited ASN-GW responsively uses the received identification to send a second data-path request message to the home ASN-GW which requests a path for data-packet communication that extends between the base station and the home ASN-GW. Once the data-path has been established, the home ASN-GW may monitor and/or place restrictions on the data being transmitted to and from the mobile stations.

The present invention relates to systems and methods for selectively pre-registering a data path for a mobile station. In an embodiment, a serving base station receives a mobile-originated handoff-request message from a mobile station, wherein the mobile-originated handoff-request message identifies one or more target base stations. The serving base station then responsively determines whether to instruct each respective target base station to pre-register a data path for the mobile station. The serving base station then sends a respective serving-to-target handoff-request message to each identified target base station, indicating whether the serving base station is instructing that target base station to pre-register a data path for the mobile station.

Computer systems, computer-readable media, and computerized methods for resolving fractional IP addresses using domain name system (DNS)-enabled devices are provided. The system includes a local DNS server that accesses a correlation table, which maintains a mapping between fractional IP addresses and domain names. The fractional IP addresses each represent an IPv4 address paired with a respective value of an IP version field. The system also includes a client device that is capable of transmitting to the local DNS server a request message, which includes a destination name of a device targeted by the client device. Upon receiving the request message, the local DNS server compares the destination name against the correlation table. When a match is discovered within the domain names populated within the correlation table, the local DNS server identifies and transmits to the client device a fractional IP address mapped to the matching domain name.
