Each of the front and back links, which are rocker links, has a lower end connected pivotally to one of the opposite ends of the fixed link and an upper end connected pivotally to one of the opposite ends of the coupler link. The front, back, and coupler links are displaceable so that the upper end of the back link is movable toward and away from the lower end of the front link, between positions on opposite sides of a center line drawn between the lower end of the back link and the other end of the coupler link. An extensible-retractable spring connected between the rocker links biases the upper end of the back link toward the lower end of the front link. As measured along the front and back links respectively, a front end of the spring is comparatively closer to the lower end of the front link and a back end of the spring is comparatively farther from the lower end of the back link.

A hinge arrangement for vehicle hoods in vehicles is described. The arrangement is intended to decrease injuries to pedestrians struck by the front of the vehicle. The hood is pivotable about at least two hinges, preferably applied at the rear of the hood. The hood is able to compliantly receive impacts in the vertical direction. Each respective hinge is fixed in at least two rods connected to the hinges. One of the rods is a draw rod, designed to receive forces in the longitudinal direction of the hood, substantially stopping horizontal displacement of the hood in a collision. Another rod is a vertical rod, able to deform due to a vertical collision at a predetermined vertical load. The vertical rod is shaped to be able to receive the vertical load over a predetermined deformation length.

A pivot secured to the vehicle body structure engages a slot in a hinge secured to the hood. During normal vehicle operation, the pin is retained in a pin retention pocket at an upper end of the slot, and the slot narrows at a neck portion immediately below the pin retention pocket to prevent the hood from being lifted upwardly. A powered deployment cylinder is activated by a pedestrian impact detection system and urges the hood and the hinge upward relative to the body structure, the pivot sliding downward in the slot. The cylinder applies sufficient upward force to hood and/or hinge to force the pivot through the neck portion of the slot. When in the raised position, a larger diameter section of the pin engages the slot in an interference fit to provide resistance to movement of the hinge and hood downward toward the normal position.

The invention relates to a drive for a flap provided on a vehicle, especially an engine hood. The drive comprises an electric motor, an actuation shaft that is connected to the flap, and a reduction gear by means of which the rotor of the electric motor is coupled to the actuation shaft. The drive flier comprises an energy accumulator by means of which the actuation shaft can be driven independently of the electric motor. The reduction gear is configured in such a way that the actuation shaft is driven in a rotational direction only by the energy accumulator and the electric motor drives the actuation shaft in an opposite rotational direction, thereby supplying to the energy accumulator an energy that is needed to drive the actuation shaft in the rotational direction. The invention further relates to a pedestrian protection means provided on a vehicle and equipped with such a drive.

A work vehicle has an engine hood which may be opened and closed. The vehicle includes a connecting mechanism for allowing the hood to be pivoted upwards after displacement of the hood in the forward or rearward direction relative to the vehicle body, and includes also a movement restricting mechanism for checking sideways and upward movements of the engine hood after the hood is closed. The connecting mechanism includes a first bracket pivotally attached to a vehicle chassis, a second bracket provided to the engine hood, and a connecting member for pivotally interconnecting the first bracket and the second bracket. The movement restricting mechanism includes an engaging portion fixedly provided to the engine hood and an engaged portion provided to the vehicle body for engaging the engaging portion.
