摘要: In the case where data are recorded in a medium, after a specific type of a medium in which recording is performed is set, if it is detected that information is recorded on an address of specific position at which decoding information is to be located, then data at a section in which the decoding information is located are replaced with predetermined information and recording is performed. Alternatively, when data are to be reproduced from a medium, after it is discriminated that data are reproduced from a medium of a specific type, if it is determined that data are reproduced from an address of specific position at which the decoding information is to be located, then reproduction data of a section in which the decoding information is located is replaced with predetermined information and outputted. Thus, when contents data are recorded in (or reproduced from) a medium such as a recordable DVD standard, copy of data requiring copyright protection can be limited easily and reliably while a recording area of a medium is being used effectively.

摘要: In a recordable data storage medium on which property data was recorded after having been modulated and on which data that is decodable by a cryptographic key to be generated from the property data was recorded, the property data was preferably modulated by a different method from that applied to a read-only data storage medium. Then, an optical disc drive, having no ability to distinguish the recordable data storage medium from the read-only data storage medium, cannot read the recordable data storage medium. Consequently, a greater number of drives should be equipped with the function of recognizing the type of a given data storage medium and the copyright protection function should be consolidated.

摘要: Apparatus and a method are described to enable reading apparatus to access content data of an optical disc such as a DVD where the content data carried by the DVD is encrypted by an encryption technique that requires a decryption key or keys. Reproduced content data corresponding to the encrypted content data is provided and this reproduced content data, at least some of which may be encrypted using a different technique, is made available for access by a reading apparatus. The reproduced content data may be stored on the same optical disc as the encrypted content data or at a different location, for example on a storage medium which may be coupled to the reading apparatus or at a location on a network that can be accessed by the reading apparatus.

摘要: Systems and methods are provided for identifying a video object using digital fingerprints. The digital fingerprints are generated from information extracted from the video object including encoded video. The digital fingerprints can be calculated in a manner that permits identification of both the video object and operational characteristics of the video object based on matching calculated digital fingerprints with known fingerprints of known video objects. Systems and methods are described that allow a DVD to be uniquely identified and identify whether the DVD is original, copied or pirated. Systems and methods are described for computing digital fingerprints from strings of bits in which certain additional data is optionally embedded. Systems and methods are described that permit media players to access known signatures of known video objects maintained on one or more databases and to identify video objects presented for playing on the media player.

摘要: An optical disk device includes a signal processing unit which processes a signal output by a pickup head, an amplifying unit which amplifies the signal processed by the signal processing unit, an analog to digital converting unit which converts the signal concerning a white noise amplified by the amplifying unit into a digital signal to output data of a particular bit width, and a random number data generating unit which generates random number data on the basis of the data output by the analog to digital converting unit.

摘要: An apparatus for reading or writing user data stored block-wise in encrypted form on a storage medium. The apparatus includes a command interface for receiving and interpreting a read (or write) command. The read command includes a user data information specifying which user data are to be read. A reader reads the user data and a related encryption indicator from a block of the storage medium. The encryption indicator indicates if said user data is encrypted or not. The reader further reads a related key data identifier specifying which key data to use for decrypting the user data if said encryption indicator indicates that said user data are encrypted. A decryptor decrypts the user data using the key data.

摘要: A configuration for preventing authentication processing due to continuous use of an old authorized device certificate, and illegal use of contents is provided. An arrangement is made wherein with playback or recording processing of contents accompanying data transfer between two different devices such as a drive and a host or the like, when performing mutual authentication between devices for executing data transfer, the number of times of authentication is counted, and in the event of this reaching a predetermined upper limit value of the number of times of authentication, authentication processing is cancelled, and it is necessary to update a certificate to be applied to authentication. The present configuration eliminates contents use due to continuity of authentication processing to which an old certificate is applied, and enables prompting a user to obtain the newest certificate.
