    摘要: A recording and reproducing system for performing a read-after-write operation, and for performing automatic tracking. The system includes a magnetic head for recording/reproducing information from/onto a tape. The magnetic head has a first gapped portion and a second gapped portion. The system further includes a reading circuit for reading information recorded on the tape, a writing circuit for writing information onto the tape, a changing device for selectively connecting the first gapped portion to either the reading circuit or the writing circuit, and for selectively connecting the second gapped portion to either the reading circuit or the writing circuit, and a comparator for comparing the outputs from the first and second gapped portions when the first and second gapped portions are each connected to the reading circuit by the changing device, and for outputting a signal representative of that comparison. The system also includes a motor operatively coupled to the output of the comparator for moving the magnetic head in a width direction relative to the tape in accordance with the output of the comparator.

    摘要: A magnetic recording apparatus of a helical scanning system comprises a rotary cylinder (13), recording heads (A and B) and an erase head (10) attached to slightly project from a rotating surface (13a) of the cylinder (13). The rotary erase head (10) has a gap (4) comprising a ferrite core half (1) and a Sendust film (3) formed on a ferrite core half (2) opposed to the ferrite core half (1) and having a larger saturation magnetic flux density. In addition, the recording heads (A and B) and the rotary erase head (10) are attached on the rotary cylinder (13) so that an end (P1) located forward with respect to the tape travelling direction (11) of the Sendust film (3) may trace the backward side with respect to the tape travelling direction (11), apart by a distance which is a half of the gap length of the rotary erase head (10), as compared with a forward end (Q) of a recorded track pattern ( 15a) formed on a tape (14) by the recording head (A) scanning immediately after erasing by the rotary erase head (10).

    摘要: A digital tape drive wherein tape is written, and a read-after-write operation is immediately performed to check the integrity of the write operation, for either direction of tape movement. The tape contains a plurality of parallel data tracks. Two read/write head modules span the entire tape. The read and write gaps of each module are alternately spaced across the width of the tape, such that the write gaps of one module are aligned with the read gaps of the other module. When one module is selected for writing, as a function of the direction of tape movement, the other module is selected to read-after-write check the first module's written data. One module writes odd-track data during one direction of tape movement, and reads even-track data during the opposite direction of tape movement; as the other module writes even-track data during said opposite movement direction, and reads odd-track data during said one movement direction. Common read and write eletronic circuits are switched between the two modules, since each module is using only one of its read and write gap multiples at any given time.

    摘要: In an apparatus for reproducing video signals which are recorded as modulations of a carrier on a record medium, such as a magnetic tape, in successive, abutting parallel record tracks, with the signals being recorded in alternating tracks with different first and second azimuth angles, first and second magnetic heads are provided for sequentially scanning the tracks in which signals are recorded with the first and second azimuth angles, respectively, and the first and second magnetic heads having azimuth angles corresponding to the first and second azimuth angles of the respective tracks to be scanned thereby. Each of the magnetic heads is dimensioned and guided in the direction transverse to the direction along the respective track being scanned so as to overlap an adjacent track by a distance .DELTA.W=n.lambda./tan .theta.(n=1,2, . . .), in which .lambda. is the wavelength of the carrier as modulated by synchronizing signal portions of the video signals recorded in such adjacent track, and .theta. is the difference between the first and second azimuth angles of the heads. In this manner, cross-talk from the adjacent track is substantially attenuated.

    摘要: Method and apparatus for providing coarse and fine radial positioning of a multiple head assembly relative to the concentric tracks of a rotatable magnetic disk. In addition to a plurality of data heads, the head assembly also includes a pair of position sensing heads having skewed core gaps disposed at an angle with respect to each other. These position sensing heads are used for prerecording concentric position control tracks on the disk as well as for subsequent sensing of position control information during both coarse and fine positioning operations. The position control information prerecorded in the position control tracks is specially chosen so as to provide a pair of pulse trains during position sensing having characteristics such that highly accurate and reliable control of head position can be achieved based upon a detection of the coincidence relationship between predetermined pulses of the respective pulse trains.

    摘要: An azimuth angle other than zero can occur if magnetic tape vibrates or moves in the tape width direction during recording or playback mode and this can result in azimuth loss which is a function of the track width angle of misalignment and the wave length of the signals. The wider the tape width the greater the azimuth loss and the lower the tape transport speed the greater the azimuth loss. Thus, the present invention varies the track width and speed so as to obtain optimum reproduction fidelity by combining two or more heads to obtain the desired results.
