Abstract: A vehicle body exoskeleton includes a plurality of nodes each defining a receptacle. A plurality of tubes have first and second end portions smaller than and tapering inwardly from a main portion. Each end portion is received in one of the receptacles. An adhesive is applied to the end portions filling a gap defined between the receptacles and the end portions to bond the tubes to the receptacles.

Abstract: A roof panel is attached to a roof opening reinforcement that reinforces an area around an opening. The roof opening reinforcement has a rear side portion that extends in the lateral direction along the rear edge of the opening. The upper surface of the rear side portion of the roof opening reinforcement, or a roof panel opposed surface, extends along the lower surface of the roof panel. Extended reinforcements are disposed corresponding to the respective rear corners of the opening. The extended reinforcement extends toward the roof side rails as if forming an extension of the roof panel opposed surface, and is attached to the roof panel near where the roof panel is attached to the roof side rails.

Abstract: A vehicle assembly including a vehicle body and a roof assembly is provided. The vehicle body may include a mid-pillar having a receiving region. The roof assembly may include a mid-pillar segment having an attachment end. The receiving region may be defined by a cutout having a base portion spaced from an adjacent vehicle body surface. The attachment end may be sized for disposal within the cutout for one or more fasteners to removably secure the mid-pillar segment to the mid-pillar. The receiving region and the attachment end may be arranged with one another such that the roof assembly is removably attachable adjacent a belt line of the vehicle body.

Abstract: A structural member 10 includes a closed-cross-section structure having a hat member 1 and a closing plate 2, and a reinforcing member (supplementary strengthening member (“SSM”)) 4. The hat member 1 includes two side walls 11 and 12, each of which includes a high-strength portion 11A, 12A with a yield strength not lower than 500 MPa and low-strength portions 11B, 12B with a yield strength of 60 to 85% of the yield strength of the high-strength portion. As determined along the direction of extension of the ridges 123 of the hat member, both ends of the reinforcing member 4 overlap the high-strength portions 11A and 12B of the side walls 11 and 12. Adjacent to at least one of both ends of the reinforcing member 4, the border between the high-strength portions 11A and 12A and the low-strength portions 11B and 12B is positioned in a region starting at a position 1/3, and ending at a position 3/2, of the height H of the side wall 11 distant from that end of the reinforcing member 4 as determined along the direction of extension of the ridges 123 away from the reinforcing member 4.
