摘要： Air dam apparatus for a motor vehicle includes a so-called door for deflecting air from the frontal clearance area at the front of the vehicle and below its structure such as the front bumper. The apparatus includes securement struts adapted for being attached to the vehicle structure for extending below it at the front of the vehicle. Fitments provide pivotal attachment of the door to the struts with the door extending transversely across and below the front of the vehicle and positioned centrally at the front of the vehicle for deflecting air which otherwise would pass between the vehicle wheels and beneath the vehicle itself to produce aerodynamic drag causing reduced fuel efficiency. The pivotal attachment permits rocking of the door about a transverse pivot axis for exposure of the door to aerodynamic forces. The pivot axis is located vertically with respect to the door so that such aerodynamic forces are balanced above and below the pivot axis. Torsion bars which define the pivot axis serve to resiliently urge the door toward an air damming or blocking position about the pivot axis, the door being rockable on the pivot axis from the air blocking position in response to obstructions which may contact the door below the pivot axis.

摘要： A counterweight assembly for a vehicle comprising an open-end support frame anchored to the vehicle chassis and extending longitudinally from the latter beneath the overhang of an engine supported on one end of the chassis. A plurality of weights 21 are suspended from the support frame. Co-acting means 25-26 on the support frame and the weights 21 provide for self-alignment of the weights upon insertion of the latter through the open end into the support frame. The co-acting means are constructed and arranged to provide line contact between portions of the support frame and each weight to minimize sliding resistance as the weights are moved in the direction of the chassis toward locating stop means 31. Securing means 28 lock the weights in place on the support frame.

摘要： A self-deployable front air spoiler assembly mounted beneath a vehicle underbody, the air spoiler assembly comprising a laterally extending airfoil which in non-deployed condition is situated in a semi-concealed position. The airfoil is supported at each side of the longitudinal center of the vehicle on swingable links, each link being pivotally coupled at one end to the airfoil and at the other end to the vehicle underbody. The pivot axes of the links are substantially parallel to the airfoil. Biasing means interposed between the air spoiler assembly and the vehicle underbody normally biases the airfoil toward its deployed condition. As the air pressure against the front face of the airfoil increases as the speed of the vehicle is increased, the airfoil swings downwardly increasing the frontal area impacted by the airstream and restricting the flow of air beneath the vehicle underbody.

摘要： An articulated frame log skidder having front and rear wheeled chassis separated by an oscillating suspension which allows the front chassis to rotate with respect to the rear chassis. The axis of rotation between the front and rear chassis is inclined upwardly toward the front of the skidder so that it passes above the center of gravity of the front chassis. Thus, as an excessive force exerted on a rear chassis winch lifts the front wheels above the vehicle-supporting surface, the front chassis remains in a stable condition with its center of gravity beneath the axis of rotation. A horizontal force applied to one of the wheels when the wheel strikes an obstruction is transformed by the inclined axis of rotation into a rotational moment about the axis which lifts the wheel over the obstruction.
