Abstract: A keypad device including a parallel/serial conversion device, a keypad module, and a controller coupled to the parallel/serial conversion device and the keypad module. The keys in the keypad module are arranged in parallel. After the key is triggered, an interrupt signal will be fed to the controller. On receiving the interrupt signal, the controller will feed a drive voltage to the keypad module generating a parallel signal therein. After causing the parallel/serial conversion device to read and store the parallel signal, the controller will be able to read the parallel signal serially by using the clock signals. The status of the keypad module can thereby be obtained.

Abstract: A dust-proof structure (200) for an electronic device is disclosed. The electronic device includes a case (208) having a slot (208a) aligned with a card connector (204) in the electronic device. The dust-proof structure includes a frame (212) formed on the case and around the slot, and a dust-proof gate (210) made of resilient material. The dust-proof gate is attached to the case at a position surrounded by the frame and covering the slot. The dust-proof gate has a slit (210a) positioned communicating with the slot, wherein the slit extends along a direction parallel to a longitudinal length of the slot. To insert an electronic card (202) into the electrical device to electrically connect with the card connector, the card is moved first through the slot of the case and then the slit of the dust-proof gate.

Abstract: The invention is related a keystroke structure (3) for an electronic device which includes a shell (2) defining an opening (22). The keystroke structure comprises a cap (32) made of hard plastics such as ABS resin, a flange (34) fixed to a bottom of a periphery of the cap, wherein the flange is made of a material, such as rubber which is more elastic than that for forming the cap. The cap has a portion extending upward through the opening. A rod (42) extends downwardly from a bottom of the cap. A switch assembly (4) consisting of four first switches (44) for cursor direction control and a second switch (46) for nullenternull control. The first switches are activated by the rod when the cap is titled, and the second switch is activated by the rod when the cap is vertically depressed. When the cap is titled to activate one of the first switches, the flange engage with a bottom face of the shell. Since the flange is made of resilient material, the engagement thereof with the shell will not cause the second switch to be also activated when the cap is titled to activate one of the first switches. Such a design is particularly advantageous when the electronic device has a reduced thickness.
