    摘要: A surface resonator for use in a magnetic resonance imaging apparatus having a transversal fundamental magnetic field is composed of two sub-systems, each generating a magnetic field with the magnetic fields being perpendicular relative to each other. Each sub-system contains two current loops, both of which enclose the magnetic field allocated to them in the same plane. A circularly polarizing surface resonator is thus obtained for the transversal fundamental magnetic field.

    摘要: A circularly polarizing RF antenna suitable for use in a magnetiic resonance imaging tomography apparatus has four current loops, each formed by two U-shaped conductors with the ends of the lateral legs of the U-shaped conductors disposed opposite to each other in mirror-symmetric fashion, and the ends of the lateral legs being bridged by a resonant capacitor. The current loops are arranged on a carrier which forms a portion of a hollow cylinder, and which is divided in an axial direction between two of the current loops, so that at least one of the current loops is removable without electrical contacts. A divisible RF antenna is thus achieved into which a head or a knee joint can be easily introduced for imaging.

    摘要: An NMR radio frequency (RF) surface coil allows the user to continuously vary the size of the field of view. The surface coil utilizes a modified radio frequency trombone for size adjustment that results in a stable resonant frequency of the coil over a wide range of dimensions such that retuning of the coil is unnecessary with changes in dimensions and variation of the field of view. The coil may be increased in area by as much as 60 percent while maintaining frequency stability to 1 MHz at 63.5 MHz and 2 MHz for full extension of 10 cm. The coil is readily adapted for imaging of the human spine, but can also be utilized for imaging other anatomical features.

    摘要: An RF probe for use in magnetic resonance application includes a transmitter coil for transmitting RF energy to excite a specimen and receiver coil for sensing the RF energy absorbed or emitted by the specimen wherein, in a first embodiment, the receiver coil has a primary coil loop for placement immediately adjacent a specimen and a secondary coil loop, said receiver coil loops being anti-phase and connected in series and wherein the secondary receiver coil loop may be angularly rotated with respect to the transmit coil in order to balance the current induced in both receiver coil elements to achieve a zero net induced current from the transmit coil while the primary receiver coil element is in position for taking measurements. In a second embodiment, the receiver coil element has a pair of parallel connected anti-phase coil elements, and the primary coil element for placement immediately adjacent the specimen has a reduced inductance and, hence, impedance such that it exhibits an increased sensitivity and greater signal-to-noise ratio.

    摘要: A magnetic resonance imaging detection coil includes an outer coil divided into two symmetrical coils by a transverse central conductor. A 180.degree. phase shift network is coupled across the junction of the central transverse conductor with the outer conductor for providing the central conductor with a virtual ground potential when a magnetic field normal to the general plane of the coil system is present. The two coils formed by the central conductor and the outer conductor form parallel coils functioning similarly as a butterfly coil. The currents in the central conductor are cumulative, flowing in the same direction. The parallel coil system induces current on the central conductor which is 90.degree. out of phase with the current induced in the outer conductor. The signals corresponding to the parallel coil and series coil arrangement are then phase shift combined to place these signals in phase.

    摘要: A resonance exciting coil (C) excites magnetic resonance in nuclei disposed in an image region in which a main magnetic field and transverse gradients have been produced. A flexible receiving coil (D) includes a flexible plastic sheet (40) on which one or more loops (20) are adhered to receive signals from the resonating nuclei. Velcro straps (46) strap the flexible sheet and the attached coil into close conformity with the surface of the portion of the patient to be imaged. An impedance matching or coil resonant frequency adjusting network (50) is mounted on the flexible sheet for selectively adjusting at least one of an impedance match and the peak sensitivity resonant frequency of the receiving coil. A preamplifier (52) amplifies the received signals prior to transmission on a cable (24). A selectively variable voltage source (70) applies a selectively adjustable DC bias voltage to the cable for selectively adjusting at least one of the impedance match and the LC resonant frequency of the receiving coil. The received signals are amplified by an amplifier (82) and processed by an image processor (30) to form man-readable images of the examined region of the patient for display on a video display (32) or the like.

    摘要: A magnetic resonance imager includes a quadrature coil assembly (20) for transmitting radio frequency signals into and receiving magnetic resonance signal from an examination region. The quadrature coils assembly includes a first coil (22) and a second coil (24). A shunt path (32, 64, 74, 84, 94, 98, 100, 112, 114, 122) provides a current path by shunting at least a portion of one of the coils. A variable impedance (34, 66, 76, 86, 96, 110, 120) adjusts the amount of current flow through the shunt path and the current flow through the bypassed coil portion. More specifically, adjusting the impedance changes the magnetization vector generated by the coil assembly in a transmit mode and adjusts their relative isolation in a receive mode. The quadrature coils are mounted such that they are offset by about, but not quite, 90.degree.. The variable impedance is adjusted until the offset is brought precisely to 90.degree.. In this manner, the quadrature coils are adjusted electronically after assembly to insure the precision of their isolation.
