Abstract: Methods, computer program products, and systems can be used to simulate physical processes. One of the methods includes determining an input flux to be applied to a first element. The method includes determining an applied flux, the applied flux being an amount of flux that can be applied to the first element without causing numerical instability. The method includes determining a balance flux, the balance flux being the difference between the input flux and the applied flux. The method also includes providing the balance flux to a second element.

Abstract: Embodiments provide methods and systems for optimizing a physical system. One such example embodiment begins by defining, in memory of a processor, a model comprising a plurality of design variables where the defined model represents a real-world physical system where behavior of the model is given by an equation that includes corresponding sensitivity equations for the plurality of design variables. The example method continues by iteratively optimizing the model with respect to a given design variable of the plurality, using the equation. In an example embodiment, the optimizing includes the processor accounting for a given external intervention event between equilibriums by adding a term for design response sensitivity of the given one of the plurality of design variables to the corresponding sensitivity equation of the given design variable. Such optimizing results in an improved optimization of the real-world physical model.

Abstract: Methods, systems, and apparatus, including computer programs encoded on computer storage media, for the generation and use of an electro-thermal battery model. One of the methods includes obtaining battery data comprising voltage values, with each voltage value corresponding to an operating state of the battery. The method includes selecting a battery model, the battery model having convex parameters and non-convex parameters. The method includes processing the battery data by performing a fitting procedure to determine values of the convex parameters and non-convex parameters. The fitting procedure includes fitting the convex parameters with respect to the battery data during which the non-convex parameters are held fixed. The fitting procedure includes fitting the non-convex parameters with respect to the battery data. The fitting procedure also includes creating an electro-thermal model for a battery from the selected battery model using the fitted values of the convex and non-convex parameters.

Abstract: An embodiment provides a virtual reality experience by defining a model representing an object that includes experimental parameters. After defining the model, a model simulation is performed, using variations of the experimental parameters, that produces results for each of the one or more variations. The results include a value for a behavior of interest of the model for each of the variations. Next, the results are compressed to an interpolant comprising discrete polytope bins with continuous surrogates of the behavior of interest. Responsive to user provided values of the experimental parameters, a value of the behavior of interest is predicted using the interpolant. In turn, a virtual reality experience is provided by displaying to the user an effect on the model for the user-provided values of the one or more experimental parameters where the displayed effect on the model reflects the predicted value for the behavior of interest.
