There is provided a vehicle equipped with a shock absorbing structure that can absorb collision energy stably under all collision conditions to ensure the safety of crew members and passengers. The shock absorbing structure is arranged in an end part of the vehicle. The shock absorbing structure comprises an upper-stage shock absorbing structure 100 that is arranged in an upper part of a crushable zone to absorb collision energy by being crushed by a predetermined load, a lower-stage shock absorbing structure 120 that is arranged in a lower part of the crushable zone to absorb the collision energy by being crushed by the predetermined load, and a middle-stage shock absorbing structure 110 that is held between the upper-stage shock absorbing structure 100 and the lower-stage shock absorbing structure 120 arranged over and under the middle-stage shock absorbing structure 110. The middle-stage shock absorbing structure 110 includes a buffer structure 112 and a slide structure 113, and the buffer structure 112 is slid to the rear by the predetermined load.

The invention relates to an anti-climbing device (2) for railway carriages, which is fixed at least at one end of the carriage at a defined height and extends over at least part of the carriage width. To co-operate with the end section of an anti-climbing device of another carriage in the event of a crash, said device is provided with a central cut-out section (5), open on the underside and delimited on the upper side by an interception surface, said section being located beneath a central protruding end section (4), in addition to two centring surfaces (8) that laterally delimit the section (5). An essentially horizontal fixing surface (9) adjoins the lower edge of each centring surface.

A rail vehicle, in particular a lightweight motor car, has a vehicle head which contains a driver's cab, and a car body with a passenger compartment. The vehicle head is embodied as a self-supporting unit. Shock absorbing elements which operate in a telescopic fashion and which absorb the energy occurring during a collision are arranged underneath this vehicle head.

An energy-absorbing device for the end of rail vehicles is provided. In order in particular to reduce the cost of adaptation and matching between vehicle manufacturers and suppliers of the energy-absorbing device and the couplings (3) and the design and/or quality risks, the energy-absorbing device exhibits a base frame (1) which carries all the proposed elements for energy absorption in the end area and which is fastened as a compact preassembled module to the sub-frame (9) entirely in the defined interface area.

To prevent a window intruding into a cab of a rail vehicle in the event of an impact, the vehicle including a protective structure between the window and the interior of the cab and the protective structure including an opening facing the window, the protective structure supports anti-intrusion members which can move to obstruct at least part of the opening.

Upon forming a railway car composed of plural hollow shape members 40, annealed hollow shape members are used to form the ends of an underframe 30. The hollow shape members 40 are disposed so that their longitudinal orientation equals the longitudinal direction of the car body. The underframe 30 is formed by disposing plural hollow shape members 40 adjacent one another in the width direction and welding them together by friction stir welding. When the hollow shape members receive impact load, the ends of the members deform into concertinas, thereby absorbing the impact force. At this time, the friction stir welded portions also receive the impact force, but cracks are not created at the friction-stir-weld joints, and the weld joints do not prevent the hollow shape members from deforming into concertinas.

There is provided a vehicle end sill or the like, in which lap joints formed by one side lap welding are not simply deformed or broken off. An end sill 1 is formed as a box type structural body which includes lap joints W1 which are formed by one side lap welding conducted only from the outer side. Edge portions 12a and 13a of face plates 12, 13 to be superposed on the surfaces 11a and 11b of the end member (intermediate member) 11 are formed as a zigzag shape. The end member has the longitudinal axis substantially perpendicular to the direction along which the load is adapted to be applied to the end sill 1. Lap welding (one side welding conducted only from the outer side) is conducted along the edge portion 12a and 13a of the zigzag shape.

For relieving the impact force of a collision and insuring passenger safety by building an easily destructible structure into a railroad car underframe, two transversally extending cross or end sills 21, 23 are disposed in parallel and longitudinally spaced apart relation at the front end of a railroad car underframe 1 and energy absorbing sills 61 adapted to absorb shock energy by undergoing wall buckling when subjected to a shock load exceeding a predetermined value from the front of the car is disposed between the cross beams.
