Abstract: A head-mounted device may have a head-mounted housing. The housing may include a chassis with left and right openings that overlap respective left and right optical modules that present images eye boxes. Each optical module may have a lens and display that presents an image through the lens. The chassis may have an inner frame and outer frame. A middle portion of the chassis may form a stiffened nose bridge structure. Components in the housing such as a display, a fan housing, a heat sink layer, optical module guide rods, and a rear cover may span the width of the housing and may be attached to edge portions of the chassis, thereby forming a box-shaped structure that provides rigidity and helps prevent housing deformation.

Abstract: An eyewear device presents, via an image display, an initial displayed image. The initial displayed image has an initial field of view corresponding to an initial head direction or an initial eye direction. Eyewear device detects movement of a user of the eyewear device by: (i) tracking, via a head movement tracker, a head movement of a head of the user, or (ii) tracking, via an eye movement tracker, an eye movement of an eye of the user of the eyewear device. Eyewear device determines a field of view adjustment to the initial field of view of the initial displayed image based on the detected movement of the user. Field of view adjustment includes a successive field of view corresponding to a successive head direction or a successive eye direction. Eyewear device generates a successive displayed image based on the field of view adjustment and presents the successive displayed image.

The visual perception device has pliable components to absorb forces exerted on a nose piece and a protective barrier for limiting electric shock or ingress of dirt.

Abstract: An ocular optical system including an eyewear device and a tunable light attenuator is provided. The tunable light attenuator is disposed on a light path which the eyewear device is disposed on and includes a plurality of cholesteric liquid crystal layers, a plurality of electrode layers, and a controller. Each of the cholesteric liquid crystal layers is disposed between two of the electrode layers. The controller is electrically connected to the electrode layers and configured to adjust voltages applied to the electrode layers so as to operate the cholesteric liquid crystal layers in at least two steps of light attenuation for randomly polarized light with at least one of a blue band and an ultraviolet band.
