摘要： A magnetic recording medium comprising a non-magnetic support having thereon at least one magnetic layer is disclosed, comprising a dispersion of ferromagnetic particles in a binder; said at least one magnetic layer comprising:(a) a surface comprising abrasive agents having a Mohs' hardness of 6 or more in an average amount of 0.3 to 1.4 particles/.mu.m.sup.2, and(b) a cutting cross section containing abrasive agents having a Mohs' hardness of 6 or more in an average amount of at least 0.1 particle/.mu.m.sup.2 greater than said average amount of abrasive agents contained on said surface.

摘要： A magnetic recording medium having on a non-magnetic support a magnetic layer mainly composed of a ferromagnetic metal powder and a binder resin is disclosed, wherein the specific surface area S (m.sup.2 /g) of the ferromagnetic metal powder is from 30 to 65 and the magnetic layer further contains a fatty acid ester in a content Y (% by weight) to the ferromagnetic metal powder of the range of 0.05S+5.5.ltoreq.Y.ltoreq.-0.2S+24 when the specific surface area S is from 30 to less than 50 and the range of 0.06S+4.7.ltoreq.Y.ltoreq.-0.13S+21 when the specific surface area S is from 50 to 65. The magnetic recording medium is suitable for high density recording and exhibits excellent running durability.

摘要： A magnetic recording medium comprises a nonmagnetic support and a magnetic recording layer containing a ferromagnetic powder which is provided on the support. The magnetic recording layer contains a binder resin having a acid residue or a salt thereof and a fatty acid ester compound having the formula (I): ##STR1## wherein R is a hydrocarbon group having 11-21 carbon atoms, R.sup.1 is hydrogen atom or a hydrocarbon group having 1-3 carbon atoms, and R.sup.2 and R.sup.3 are the same or different and each is a hydrocarbon group having 1-8 carbon atoms. The total number of carbon atoms contained in R.sup.1, R.sup.2 and R.sup.3 being not less than 3 carbon atoms. Alternatively, the fatty acid ester can be coated on the magnetic layer.

摘要： Flexible magnetic recording media such as videotapes based on ferromagnetic oxide particles can provide high carrier-to-noise ratios previously available only with metal powder tapes when the recording layer has a high loading (at least 74% by weight) of oxide particles which have a high surface area (at least 40 m.sup.2 /g) and includes free monobasic fatty acid comprising more than 1.5% by weight of the ferromagnetic oxide particles. The free fatty acid provides a coefficient of friction not exceeding 0.3. A preferred monobasic fatty acid is myristic acid. By incorporating into the binder a lubricant-adsorption inhibitor such as citric acid, a greater proportion of the fatty acid remains free.
