Abstract: The formation of leachable mercury upon disposal in a landfill or during TCLP testing of mercury vapor discharge lamps is substantially prevented by incorporation of an amount of dehydroascorbic acid or a degradation product of dehydroascorbic acid which is effective to substantially prevent formation of ferric and cuprous compounds responsible for forming leachable mercury compounds.
