    Abstract: The invention relates to a fingerprint sensing system and a method of the fingerprint sensing system of enabling authentication of a user based on fingerprint data captured by a fingerprint sensor of the fingerprint sensing system. The method comprises capturing at least one image of a fingerprint of a user's finger contacting the fingerprint sensor, acquiring a stored image comprising impairment data caused by impairments that the fingerprint sensor is subjected to, extracting fingerprint feature data from the captured at least one image, extracting impairment feature data from the acquired image, and comparing at least a subset of the extracted fingerprint feature data to at least a subset of the extracted impairment feature data of the acquired image, and if there is a match the user is not authenticated.

    Abstract: A method for controlling a plurality of ultrasonic transducers in a fingerprint sensing system that comprises a cover plate having a sensing surface configured to be touched by a finger, and a plurality of ultrasonic transducers located at the periphery of the cover plate and configured to transmit an acoustic signal propagating in the cover plate, receive an ultrasonic signal having interacted with an object in contact with the sensing surface, and to determine properties of the object based on the received ultrasonic signal. The method comprises: in response to a first input, controlling the plurality of transducers such that at least a portion of the sensing surface has a first feature detection resolution; and in response to a second input, controlling the plurality of transducers such that at least a portion of the sensing surface has a second feature detection resolution, different from the first feature detection resolution.

    Abstract: There is provided a display arrangement comprising an ultrasonic biometric sensing device. The display arrangement comprises: a cover plate having a sensing surface configured to be touched by a finger; a display panel comprising a plurality of sub-layers; a plurality of ultrasonic transducers arranged along the periphery of the display arrangement and outside of an active display area of the display arrangement, each ultrasonic transducer comprising a top and bottom electrode; and ultrasonic transducer control circuitry to control the ultrasonic transducers to determine properties of an object in contact with the sensing surface. One of the sub-layers in the display panel comprises a protruding portion extending outside of an area of any other sub-layer located between the sub-layer comprising the protruding portion and the cover plate, and the plurality of ultrasonic transducers are arranged on the protruding portion between the protruding portion and the cover plate.

    Abstract: A method of classifying a finger touch in respect of a finger pressure on a surface of a fingerprint sensor, comprising the steps of: receiving, on the surface of the fingerprint sensor, a finger having a fingerprint topography; acquiring a first time-sequence of fingerprint images; determining a reference value of at least one image-related parameter indicative of a compression of the fingerprint topography, based on at least one fingerprint image in the first time-sequence of fingerprint images; acquiring a second time-sequence of fingerprint images; determining a test value of the at least one image-related parameter based on at least one fingerprint image in the second time-sequence of fingerprint images; and classifying the finger touch based on a relation between the test value and the reference value.
